Journey's End?

Where now?

I’ve finally obtained the Haunted Helmet.
I’ve been back and completed Halo3 and Halo3:ODST on Legendary to get the 100% armour.

I’ve climbed back from a .34 k/d (no, that’s not a misprint) to over 1.1. And I know that doesn’t compare with many others but it took me two years of graft.

I remember when I used to look on in envy at all the better players who would end games with 20+ kills at the time I counted it a success if I broke even.

Now I frequently top my team’s kill list - I’ve even had Perfections for Chrissakes.

Sometimes I still get beat, but not as badly.
Sometimes I still go negative, but by not as much.
And these times are usually after I’ve been playing too long a session and have lost my edge.

I’ve been narrow-focused and have played all the Halo variants to the exclusion of other shooters - and I’ve been laser-focused on climbing the ranks in Reach, by doing Challenges and concentrating on MM.

So, where now?

How do you all keep your enthusiasm for playing?

I used Reach as my escape and relaxation from doing two stressful jobs and having the focus on achieving the Haunted Helmet gave me a target to aim at.
I’m at 78% commendations but feel a bit meh about going to 100.

So what do you think - should I just play for gulp fun?

Hell yeah, play for fun. It’s supposed to be your escape, not a third job!

Maybe you could go for all the achievments if you dont have them already.

You should get into Map Building on REACH

I find it very relaxing. You can check my fileshare if you’d like some ideas.

Although, If you don’t have many friends, a custom map and gametype won’t be much fun if it’s just you

Thanks guys.
My problem is I need a target to aim at (and not just thru the scope of my DMR) and this is why I kinda stopped playing H4 after maxing at 130.
I’ve been checking my commendations and some of them - the one’s not maxed - are in the high nineties% so I’ll play them out to max.

That’ll keep me going…

Congratulations on getting the haunted helmet! I’m still a ways off, but it will come eventually.

Curious about your playing. There are probably many reasons why your MM k/d improved, but what would you say are the top 2-3 reasons why your k/d improved?

Thanks for the congrats - appreciated.

As for the k/d:

Probably the reason my k/d went so low was that I didn’t learn the craft - I didn’t play the Campaign nor FF to learn weapons, aiming, AA etc. I just jumped right in to MM and got murdered.

My reasons for improving? Well, I learned not to go rushing in solo to a fight against 2 or 3 opponents - I learned to pick my fights and back off round a corner if overwhelmed. I played reams and reams of Skirmigeddon Score Attack to improve my headshots. I bought Anniversary CE and started playing loads of AnniSlayer with the 3sk Pistol. And I learned the maps!!!

But the most important thing - I stopped panicking and spraying bullets from here to Florida! Like Chilli Palmer said, “Be Cool”.

I’ve thought about starting another account and coming in as a sneaky noob just to see how high I could get my k/d - but life’s too short for such nonsense, though I’m sure some do it.

I hear this a lot about video games and I don’t get it.
If I love a game, I’ll play for years … I was still playing Combat Evolved on PC up until Anniversary was released, and I had Reach so it wasn’t for lack of options.
Then when I got Anniversary (day one) I played those two campaigns back-to-back half-a-dozen times.

Make new friends thats what do on reach now days love the halo community see you on the battlefield.

My problem was that I just didn’t like H4.
I remember when I got it I was a bit sad to be leaving Reach because I thought my full gaming life would be on the newer game. But I found the Campaign to be more of a chore than a pleasure - Spartan Ops quickly grew ‘old’ for me and wasn’t half as much fun as FF - and the MM, well it certainly isn’t my cup of joe.
And that, I think, was the biggest dissapointment. As we spoke about before, too many power weapons and machinery plus I don’t think I ever got an FRG or Rocket Launcher in a personal Ordnance Drop - a couple of grenades or a needler or speed boost was more my thang.
I ranked to 130 as a kinda obligation.

I’m like you in that I’ll replay campaigns I like, but for me the only two Halo campaigns which have replay value are Reach and - especially - ODST.
