You might be right. To give us false hope?

WOW!!! This really sucks to hear that Joseph Staten left 343. ( He was not fired! )

I have been play’n Halo since Bungie Came out with Halo Combat Evolved. I really hope this is “NOT” the beginning of the end of the Halo Franchise. Hell even my kids have been playing Halo for years. It was great to play this game with my kids and my friends.

Maybe if they are thinking of Dropping Halo Infinite, then maybe they can let us users have some Dedicated Server Software so we can run the game ourselves!
( Just a suggestion )

Like I said I really hope this is “NOT” the beginning of the end of the Halo Franchise.

( Well at least we still have Halo MCC  )

I mean. It worked right? IDK, it was kind of obvious.

i’d wager it. dude only got involved with infinite mid development where a lot of pieces are already set. when they moved him over you had lots of people saying “omg halo is saved now” and look where we are now lol.

Joe Staten was brought on board to help Halo Infinite reach the finish line, ship, and get post launch support up and running. As reported by IGN in 2021, Joe Staten was returning to Halo “for a bit.” He was never meant to be permanent.

I believe he was never brought in for the reasons people think.

Marketing and ensuring the monetization / shop was functioning. This was his focus, especially coming from Destiny.

I think Staten joining has the bonus of marketing. If you’d been keeping up on his interviews and work with publishing when he was away from Halo you would know that he was a fixer.

Joe was most commonly assigned to games that were so down in the dumps in terms of development that they were on the verge of being canceled. Here also successfully shipped S tier titles that were never in trouble, but mostly he was a “break-the-glass” guy for projects on their last leg.

Either Infinite no longer needs a fixer, or we’re getting single player content from other companies from here on out. That’s my guess

Ohh, I hope I’m proven wrong.

Though it all means nothing if the core gameplay and bugs aren’t fixed, or let’s say improved. Along with the questionable tweaks.

Of course he was brought on as a PR stunt. Because this community is so easy to continuously get second changes from as long as they hear an old Bungie pro is coming back. It was bait, and the community took the hook along with it.

Considering the reports that most of the layoffs are in the campaign department, I doubt we’ll be seeing any campaign DLC or a new Halo game.

They likely want to recoup their costs on Infinite by going all in on the MP which means we’ll be stuck with Infinite for awhile.

I do wish they would just move on and start making the next game but that likely isn’t the case.

Yes to the first, doubt it for the second. Infinite has been dying for months. IF MS decides to restaff 343 as I believe they plan to, then we may well see a Halo game that could work out, if it avoids the monetization schemes that helped to ruin Infinite.

so much this. and now we got people thinking the guy responsible for MCC “revitalization” will fix everything now that he’s in charge. the guy is now responsible for modern halo and not the MCC. i am very skeptical stuff changes. Microsoft needed to let people go but i doubt a new direction actually happens. people need to let the past go and start believing in actions speak louder than words or in this case the past from 20 years ago.

Honestly, the only people at 343 who really needed to go were the higher ups and not the developers.

Personally I feel like someone either remaining 343 members or MS themselves needs to post a news update here regarding the future of Halo, the community is losing it’s mind thinking everything is over. I personally don’t think so, but some confirmation would be comforting.

He was there and he talked to people for 2 years. That has to count for something. Also, he still works for Microsoft so they could always send him off to do more Halo stuff. He was never going to single-handedly fix everything in less than a year. Something people forget is that Staten doesn’t do everything on his own. He’s mainly a director/writer, and the parts of Infinite he would be able to help out most in were basically done by the time he joined 343. They weren’t going to rebuild the game from the ground up at that point.

People in higher positions than Staten long before he arrived are to blame. I genuinely hope he helps with future Halo projects, but next time Microsoft needs to get him involved in development day 1, and not years later.

I read today a rumor that he was indeed working with a dedicated team on SP expansions, for months and even years to come, but supposedly that was scrapped by 343 due to being unsustainable/unprofitable, which might have been the reason he left.

I mean, if one looks at sales, its probably not hard to see that the return on investment for a full campaign with levels, animations, music, AI, etc for 60 bucks (or less, no guaruntee they could pull the same 60 dollar campaign stunt again for an expansion), compared to charging people 10-20 bucks for some new armor colored blue.

Thats the problem with letting MTX get as pricey as they have. While put in all the effort to make a good campaign when you can just sell bits and pieces for 1/3 the cost and like 1/10000th the effort?

To clear things up, Joseph Staten was not hired for marketing purposes. He was hired to help get Halo Infinite out the door and plan post launch support.

I felt there’s always been this weird & faint praise for him ever since that first Bonnie Ross statement regarding MCC when they acknowledged how they neglected to add ODST originally, think it was back in 2014. So in my eyes they’ve been making him the like , “kojima” of halo for way too long now, or at least Bonnie Ross was.

I’d honestly believe he came in to do a sorta hybrid lead management/publishing level of work that he was already doing internally and now the continued work probably lies in the hands of certain affinity.

I Don’t dislike the guy but you can tell when a company kinda forces the association of a name or face for their game.
