Now I’m normally not the type to go on ranting but this is something the halo community just cannot stand for. A fully arbitrated match is what gave halo its professionality. It’s what made the game stand out from others, such as gears of war and obviously cod. Same with random drop power weapons. These are just things that will change halo as a whole, community wise and gameplay wise.
Imagine being on a perfection, shotgun and dmr. You are at your spawn simply holding it down, waiting for the match to end to receive your medal. Most of the opposing team are aware of what you are doing and decide to leave out of embarrassment. A few seconds later, a well seasoned halo 4 player enters the game. Out of his luck, a random rocket launcher drop is delivered close to him. Not even realizing that you are on your perfection, he finds you and kills you less than 2 minutes of him being in the game. There goes your perfection.
Halo is possibly the biggest community involved game. It’s a game where you and your friends can squad up and go into a playlist and destroy things. I don’t know about you guys but making an entire team quit just based off of intimidation is a great feeling to me. Knowing that them quitting the game is going to mess up their possibilities of hitting credit jackpots. This is supposed to be an online shooter that actually demands knowledge of the game, where the more experienced will probably prosper. Joining in game sessions gives it that feeling of a “quick match” rather than “matchmaking” and that’s never been the halo thing.
Yes there has to be SOME new things added, and im all for it seeing as I am a huge Reach fan. But taking a respectable system that actually put players in a position to make a team with random people, and replacing it with something that doesn’t even encourage the player to stay for the entire match? That is a disgrace to the halo name and I believe it removes the class that this game offered.
Even with the random power weapon spawns, it takes a lot of tactical advantage away from gameplay and removes focal points from maps. Sure, it gives new players a chance to use these weapons, but playing enough halo and LEARNING where they spawn has always been an important key to any match. We need not to forget that. The fights over weapons were always the greatest especially when you know what to expect. Dropping an ordinance randomly throughout the stage is going to create what I call the “hill effect”. People will see the weapon drop and everyone will rush it, while a few smart people sit back and rack up all the kills. Don’t believe me? Play a game of invasion slayer and it’s somewhat the same thing.
I hope you guys will read this and agree with me and maybe we can convince 343i to remove these ideas from the full title. We’re looking for a new halo game that will dwarf even halo 3, not a new shooting game with the halo format.
