joining games in progress sucks

so i had a long day and i came home to play some halo. i sat down and got myself comfortable. i went into btb matchmaking and guess what? my FIRST game of the night involved me joining a game that was already half way done.

what’s worst? i was on the losing team; 300-850… talk about mood kill. that’s a horrible way to start any halo game when you expect to start out fresh after a long day.

i managed to get 8 kills before we lost; knowing that i could’ve turn things around if i started playing the match from the beginning. i was never really annoyed by joining games in progress until THAT happened to me last night.

It’s awful. It needs to be gone. There’s no “fixing” a BS system such as this.

Here’s a secret, if you get tossed into a lobby that’s already in session, like you were last night, hit Start, go down, go over to the Network tab, and change it to My Xbox, it will back you out of the lobby, then you just click Xbox Live again and go back to searching. Hope I helped a bit!

thanks, i’ll give it a shot the next time it happens again.

Join in session exists because of all the people who complained about quitters. Now people want to complain about join in session because they have fixed the original complaint of so many. Their fix is not good enough for the community, so now it needs to go away so we can complain about quitters again.

How about you stop complaining over every single minor inconvenience, like your first game of the many that you are probably going to play, not going in your favor. It happens, and we all have to deal with it. It’s not a big deal. Would you rather have a game where someone quits early, putting you at a disadvantage, or would you go back to complaining about that too if they reverted?

i’ve never complained about quitters in ANY halo game. quitters just means, more targets for me and i love a good challenge; it’s not a disadvantage.

You can’t please all the people all the time.

Very true that this system arose from all the people complaining about quitters. No system is going to be perfect, but go figure people are unhappy about the fix 343i brought in.

Its not so bad joining a game mid-match, like you said yourself, its always nice to have a challenge!

Whether its from people quitting, or joining a match.

That also means you can join a match where your team is winning.
Pro’s and Con’s to every situation.

I do understand what your saying though, I joined a game with 2 minutes left and our team was getting stomped! ha ha. I was pretty choked…but I personally would keep this current system.

So, you love a good challenge, but joining a game when you start off losing is something that you don’t think should ever happen to you? Sounds like you don’t really like a challenge much to me.

All this talk about joining games almost done/losing, It sucks I know, But Im for damn sure none of you guys ever bring up joining a game where you are up by 10-15 kills

Feels good man

Reach did an excellent job of discouraging quitting. Halo 4 has none of this.
If you quit too many games in Reach, you’d be banned from playing for a short period of time. In addition, they’d offer ‘credit jackpots’ for those who finished their games consistently.
If anything, joining in-progress games is an incentive to quit early. At least for me. I can’t stand it.

Join In Progress is a feature that is useful, but of course has the downside the OP mentioned. It’s great when some members of your team quit in a close match that others can join up. It’s also a great way to join up with your friends. Finally, it provides a solution for those players who quit early in a match.

It also keeps play going as you don’t have to wait for the party to completely fill up to have a match start. They Join In Progress when there’s only 1 or 2 kills and you have a full match going without much waiting time.

However, for the reason mentioned above (which I’m sure we’ve all been there) I think there should be some sort of toggle option. Something you could switch so that it would not Join In Progress. I think this would solve the problem.

Another solution could be to only have Join In Progress allowed in matches that had only a specific amount of time elapsed. So that after 3 minutes into the game, no Join In Progress could happen. You could also pair it with score as well.

While some people bring up good points of you can also join a game where your team is winning…this is likely not the case. Generally people will quit when their team is losing by a lot than when their team is winning. Hence, more of the games you join in progress to are where you team is losing than winning.

But it’s not something that happens constantly throughout your play time. It may occur several times if you switch playlists a lot, but there are also counters to that.

Play with a full party whenever you can, this ensures that you will have to start a fresh game.

Party up with people if you find a random/group who you work well with

It’s really not a big deal man.

I love JiP.

Reach’s quit ban was a joke. IMO, it should’ve been 10 times as severe. Like, you quit 3 games, you don’t play the rest of the day. Next offense, 3 days. Next, a week, and so on and so forth.

It just goes to show; people complained about quitters, then people complained about solution to quitters.

The Halo community is like American politics; no clue and impossible to please.

Reach’s Quit ban didn’t prevent people quitting, it just pissed people off who got banned for it.

Make Join in Progress and an option. If I don’t want to be dropped into a game that already started, I’ll have the option to turn it off.

However, if we get Ranked and Social Playlists, with VISIBLE true skill, make Join in Progress for social games only. This way players will know what to expect.

everyone hates join in progress so they will most likely get rid of it

> everyone hates join in progress so they will most likely get rid of it

Pfffhahaha.

Have you tried stand-up, dude? I hear a lot of people find bullcrap hilarious.

I constantly get put in games in progress, and I’ve always gritted my teeth and stuck with it.

But I just played a game of team regicide (bearing in mind that I joined the game previous when there was hardly any kills remaining and lost) - three team mates left in the first minute. I was by my self for the rest of the game. Of course, I was king meaning all four enemies would run up and destroy me.

Why is it that I can join seemingly any game conditions possible, yet not one person got put into my team?

I hear that you are classified as mentally limited if your IQ is below 70. I can only conclude from this post inferring you like JIP that your IQ must indeed be below 70. I feel sorry for you.

Hahaha, I can’t believe 343 have censored the word r-e-t-a-r-d. Talk about nannying people.
