My main issue with people joining games in progress is that it kind of kills the experience of the game. When you play a game 4v4 or 5v5 you have this small core group of players playing against each other. You kind of learned how the other player played really quickly and it allowed you to adapt in game. Learn things such as strafing techniques or favorite weapons etc.
It seems I constantly see people cycling in and out of games like CoD. People are inclined to quit more often now that the penalty doesn’t really do anything to your progress. It seems to ruin the game since I am constantly playing people of all different skill levels who all have different mini tactics.
It’s just not fun.
You sound like somebody’s grandpa.
Vinyl phonograph records sound better than CD.
Diner coffee tastes better than Starbucks.
Paper maps work better than a GPS.
The list goes on …
Join in progress saved Halo from irrelevancy. No more lopsided blowouts due to frequent quit-outs. Get with the times, man.
People rarely used to quit out before. Quitting meant losing ranks and experience. The only reason so may people quit now is because there are little to no penalties in doing so.

I haven’t seen anyone quit in the 150+ games I’ve played. But back in Reach, I saw a lot of quitters. They quit because the games were 4v2, a lot. I saw my k/d go down the drain when I refused to quit. Join in progress saved players from that.
There is a penalty to quitting now. It’s the time you spend waiting to get out of the game, and into the next one. It can take 2+ minutes.
I just think you’re making nostalgia out of a great solution. But who knows, maybe you can get 343 to create a no JIP playlist and relive the glory days.
guess what FPS shooters have been using JIP for decades. Welcome to the club console gamers, its not a bad thing.
