Join In Progress problems

Join in progress has it’s benefits, but those benefits I feel don’t make up for the overwhelming amount of problems that come with it. Maybe not all problems are caused by JIP, so I’ll be going on about how 343 should fix matchmaking in general.

I’ll state right now that I’ve had 2 games so far where I join in progress and the game ends LITERALLY 10 seconds later. Now, this is a huge problem. I don’t get a full game complete, so my double EXP token just went to waste. Aside from that, I end up with a loss on my record.

“But POKEY, why do you assume that you automatically end up with a loss on your record? Surely you could join the winning team!”

NO! The majority of players who quit, quit because they are losing and/or getting dominated. Here’s another thing, if I join a game where the odds are against me, 4 flag caps to 0, 200 oddball points to 0, a score of 550 to 100, I don’t want to play that game, and if I myself quit this horrible game that JOIN IN PROGRESS put me into, I lose any double EXP token that I would have got from that game.

Now onto a general matchmaking problem. DO NOT, START GAMES, WITH UNEVEN TEAMS! This is how games get so lopsided. One team has the clear player advantage, so they’ll most likely get the early lead, maybe a dominating lead, then people quit, or later on in the game players, like me, get put on the losing team.

Starting games with uneven teams usually comes from people quitting at the voting process. Which shouldn’t happen. Don’t let players who want to get back to their lobby GET TO THE VOTING PROCESS. When a game finishes, don’t throw them into a new game/voting process right away. Have a queue for players to BACK OUT of the post game lobby before starting another vote/find players. Many players DO NOT WANT TO PLAY WITH THE SAME PLAYERS OVER AND OVER. If they got dominated, they don’t want to get dominated again, if THEY dominated, they usually want a challenge.

Join In Progress also gives the illusion that it’s OKAY to quit a game. “My spot will just be filled anyway”.

I’m sure there are players who are okay with JIP, but there are many players who are not. Make it an OPTION to JIP or not.

Discussion value, do you agree, disagree? Tell us stories of games where JIP totally screwed you. I have plenty.

Bzzz-ump, hopefully with lower traffic this won’t get dumped down to nth page withiin 10 seconds.

Maybe people aren’t interested in another JiP thread. I’ve had very few problems with join in progress and almost all the game’s I’ve joined had just begun.

Good post, OP. If you would like to share some experiences here https://forums.halowaypoint.com/yaf_postst133014_Joining-in-progress-games.aspx so we can keep most of it confined to one thread that might help.

We defintely need to see something done about this.

Join in progress was a good idea but its been poorly implemented and it just does not work in halo.

  • Games start with unfair teams
  • I join my friends and am put on the opposing team
  • The game apparently tracks trueskill then puts you in games you will always lose impacting your trueskill unfairly
  • Makes the game waaaay too confusing with people dropping in and out all the time.
