While join-in-progress seemed like an adequate solution to the quitting problem, it has failed.
Halo 4 added the feature to allow players to drop in and out of in progress games freely; the idea being if we allow player to drop in and out it would prevent teams from having a disadvantage. However, this very idea has caused what it set out to stop. A very noticeable disadvantage that is even more frequent than in previous games.
I often times find myself in a match with uneven teams. For instance: I just lost a capture the flag game where the teams were 3:5 and we got demolished.
I don’t find joining “already lost” matches much more often than “already won”. However if you play just for winning then I don’t know what to tell you. For me this is a video game, I’m not being a better person by having win/loss ration high. I’m playing it to have a good time, which is totally opposite when playing 1v3 or 2v4 match in Reach. I prefer to watch “you lose” message 3 seconds after joining a game once for awhile, than finishing match after full 10 minutes of 1v4 match, which happened far too often in Reach.

Joining a game where I’m going to get creamed and spend most of the game looking at a respawn screen because I’m outnumbered isn’t fun. I do enjoy winning, but I don’t play for that reason. I play to have fun. Getting absolutely demolished because of poor design isn’t fun.
It’s funny because i VERY VERY RARELY join games where my team looses or it’s 1v4 as you said. It’s just you
I prefer it like this rather than previous Halo.I can leave whenever i want without a penalty. Why?I payied 50€ for this game so i can have fun,but i can’t have fun if the game isn’t balanced or it’s laggy as hell.In Reach, when i got the 15 min ban,i was thinking of breaking the game or going to bungie and beat them up for this ideea.
The problem is not with JiP itself it the fact that it doesnt work QUICKLY enough. All the time the spaces do not get filled fast enough. Whenever we play as a team either on the losing side with not enough players the spaces get filled after about 3 minutes or more then you get a flood of people.
If they filled them instantly a la CoD you wouldn’t even really notice people quitting.

You realise Halo 4 has a 60 minute ban? Also, I normally also don’t JIP many matches, but I had several in a row yesterday where I joined the losing team. I don’t mind though. I like the challenge of closing the score gap.
Anyway I came in here because I thought somebody would have suggested a better solution. People don’t just quit, they also get disconnected. My friend gets kicked out of our matches quite often for no apparent reason. It’s not because his internet went down, as he could keep talking in our Xbox Live party. In roughly 60% of the matches I play, somebody leaves. Whether they got disconnected, left during the game or left in the lobby: the teams are uneven. Not having JIP isn’t a solution either.

I don’t quite quit because i usually get into balanced teams and not laggy,i mean the true only moment were i start quitting is at night when the americans come, just because from perfect connection, bullets start to go throw walls. That unfairness makes me want to throw my controller throw a wall lol
Haha. Perfect time to examine a match I played earlier.
I went something like 18 - 20 and my partner went 8 - 32.
We were playing an ENTIRE GAME OF 2 v EIGHT on Ragnarok. No-one joined, no nothing.
Oh, and I forgot to mention that we were Kiwi and Aussie and we were playing on -Yoinking!- awful American or Japanese Host. It was easily a two-second delay to do anything.
Now, what I want to know is why we didn’t get anyone joining through that whole game? How does that make any sense?
I think that Join in Progress has some merits. Most importantly, it means you have access to more good connection games and for that, I don’t mind joining in progress. JIP should be unavailable after a certain time or score, however. I don’t understand how this wasn’t implemented immediately.

the only reason i like JiP, which is very little, i can abuse leaving games i hate, like right now im going for railgun kills, and i swear its easier to start a game, get kills with it when it spawns, leave and repeat and not wait it out whole game, when i know it wont respawn
I don’t like leaving a game just because I think it’s a bad way of playing. You’re not only letting your team down but yourself, since you’re giving up just because you’re at a disadvantage or cba playing.
The only times I ever quit a game is if I have to leave due to an irl issue, otherwise I stick through it even if it’s 4 vs 2 or what-not.
Just think that right now you’re complaining about people who leave and put you at a disadvantage against the opposing team; if you leave too, you’re no better than those quitters are.
But I agree with what a few people have said about not allowing jip after a certain amount of time since it is quite annoying entering a game while your team is losing. Badly.
Countless times I have been put into a losing game, then when the game is over it removes me from the lobby and puts me in another losing game. It’s so so dumb. I have found a solution, when it gets annoying I remove h4 and I play blops or battlefield.
I’ve also jip’d then after the game been stuck in another jip, then the host leaves, I sit there for 2 minutes looking at the screen it kicks me back out into the lobby and the puts me in another jip game, all of which were losing efforts where my team was being demolished. Once I was the only person on the team, really, jip to be the only person on the team, moronic. I have also started matches 1v4 again…moronic.

Dude, don’t start hating on Americans when you can’t even spell.

join in progress is not the solution but it’s not the problem.
i think they should keep join in progress but put more limits on when you can join, im tired of being put in games where the game is more then half over and my team is being steam rolled.
What they really need to do is make it so no game will start until it is FULL. if someone backs out during voting or the loading of the map. the game should look for a replacement before starting the game. If all games are full when they start people wont need to join in progress nearly as often.
but if someone does quit out during the game and its a fairly close game it makes sense to have someone join in progress, but right now it happens way too often because games are starting less than half full.
343! who is in charge of your matchmaking system?.. fire them!!!
as said in the most recent bulletin you should be pround of the game you made. but sinse it came out you have done nothing right. you keep taking giant s**** on your baby, WAKE UP!
