My friend and I came across the topic of who could have replaced Locke in Halo 5, and I thought SgtM. Johnson would have been amazing. Of course he sadly died in Halo 3, but just imagine it.
ONI uses Johnson, now a Spartan IV (he is pretty old tho lol) to bring in his good friend John 117 now rogue. The two actually know each other, and on top of that are pretty good friends. It would have been heartbreaking to see the two have to fight past their frienship and actually consider each other a threat. They choose Johnson because if theres anyone left Chief is gonna listen to, its gonna be Johnson. It wouldve added a whole new emotion to the game knowing you love both characters (at least I did) and didnt know what side to pick, instead of introducing a new character nobody likes. Im not bashing 343 for their choice of Osiris considering they didnt have much to choose from lol. But either way this never could have ever happened ever, Its just cool to think about lol.
PS: Sorry if this topic is already discussed by the way.
Do you honestly think that the man who told Chief to never let Cortana go would actually stop him from searching for her?
This is probably how the confrontation scene would go with Johnson.
Johnson show up just as Blue Team prepares to board the Guardian. Johnson: “Everybody just hold on now.” Chief appears. Johnson: “Chief, good to see ya.” Chief nods. Johnson: “Look, Command has people looking for Cortana. Come on back and we can join 'em.” Chief shakes his head. Chief: “No, I have to find her.” Johnson sighs, then removes custom face plate from helmet. Johnson: “Alright then.” Johnson pulls out cigar and puts it in mouth. Johnson: “Lead the way.” Chief nods then boards Guardian, Johnson follows.

This is probably what would actually happen if Johnson replaced Locke.

Hahaha I think this nails it on the head.
The problem Halo has is that it kills everyone off. Game of Thrones gets away with it because there are a million characters. I love this aspect of Halo, but it is starting to cause problems, making 343 rush to familiarize us with Locke before this game ( aLa abomination that was Nightfall). I think this is why no one died this game, and why they had fireteams. We went from 1 or 2 playable characters to 8, plus the ensemble cast in the cutscenes. Halo 5 was a great game, but clearly setting the stage for a larger, more gruesome story. Like reading the first part of a book where you have no idea of the significance of anyone, but must get to know them.
I’m still trying to forgive Bungie for killing Johnson.

Oh man. I got chills reading this… Now I’m sad this didn’t happen.

By all means this is what should have happened even with Locke…
Locke should have known that joining the chief would be a better option than trying to bring him in.
Johnson was a Spartan 1 so I don’t know how he can become a Spartan 4. Augmentation overwriting? Adding more augmentations? I don’t know but I would love to see him again.

Why are you not a story writer for 343 yet? Man halo 5 could have been the best halo if you were.

The concept is amazing. Maybe they could do something about it, maybe some alternative endings free dlc packs for the MCC that would come with an alternative halo 5 campaign.
