John's rank, don't forget 343i

I hope 343i didn’t forget that John-117 was promoted after Halo 3. From Master Chief Petty Officer to Master Chief Petty Officer of the Navy. Thats quite the rank increase.

John (MC) probably doesn’t know about his promotion, he wasn’t on earth. =P he was in cryo for like 4 years after-all.

In the Navy we called the Master Chief Petty Officer of the Navy the MCPON. Pronounced, “McPawn.”

In official title, they are called MCPON West, or MCPON Smith. Whatever the MCPON’s last name is.

So would we call him MCPON 117, MCPON John? MCPON Master Chief? lol

Captain Del Rio will probably tell him his new rank when they meet on Reqiuem.

And to be honest, it was kinda stupid to promote him to MCPON because the MCPON kind of runs the whole enlisted branch of the Navy. Kind of like the Vice President of the Navy itself. So why would ou grant that rank to someone who is (for all they knew) MIA? That’s like electing a dead guy as President of the United States.

Deosn’t make sense, and you can kind of tell that Bungie did not have a firm grasp on actual military ranks and positions as well as military procedures as a whole.

Huge oversight on their part…

The crew on the Infinity would probably know. I don’t think it’d bother me if they got it wrong, though. :stuck_out_tongue: I still refer to him as Petty Officer when saying his name and rank in long-form.

To be honest, the man deserves a large Moa farm , his own UNSC battlegroup, and a reunion with the Blue Team than a rank increased.

He’s saved the human race/universe once already.

Three times, and he’s aiming for the forth time now.

Can’t wait

At this point pretty much all of the UNSC Navy is run by FADM Hood.

It’s possible that MCPON becomes more of a ceremonial role in 500 years’ time.

Either that, or they promoted John to MCPON posthumously on paper, then promoted some other guy to MCPON to ACTUALLY serve the post of MCPON.

Being the McPawn now, I really hope we can command stuff now, it would be great to really feel like a high ranking officer as well as a tank.

Also, does this mean John now out ranks a Captain or Fleet Admiral? We seriously need be able to at least give some small orders.

Before, all we could do is tell a marine to -Yoink- of the Warthog driver seat, now we should also be able to select and direct troops. I’m pretty sure we have two buttons that are not being used on the D-Pad, that should be plenty in order to select a force, de-select a force, and direct selected forces. We also have the back button, so even if we don’t have two buttons, we can switch modes in the back buttons menu.

I’d love to see some kind of interactive cut scenes in the future where we can literally help make the mission plan, or make it our selves, hopefully without the awkward pauses of Mass Effects decision making.

McPawn is NOWHERE near the rank of a Fleet Admiral.

When did he get promoted? I don’t ever remember that… Like ever.

Actually twice, going for his third.

Lol, just assumed the “of the navy” part meant he was one seriously high ranking mother f****er. Still, he must be much higher than he was before.

Chief does not want to command the orders, he wants to do the orders.

Not to bother here, but when did MC get a promotion? It’s always been Master Chief Petty Officer… I had no idea he ever got promoted, and I’ve read most of the novels and own all of the games.

He is one rank lower than a Lieutenant however ‘McPawn’ tends to draw more respect.

He commanded Blue Team for years and was damn good at it. His soul purpose is pretty much getting the job done, Chief will always be one of the guys on the ground, that doesn’t mean he can’t have some say as to what he does on the ground.

> When did he get promoted? I don’t ever remember that… Like ever.

On the Voi memorial next to the scratched in “117” is the badge for his new rank.

So, in the Reclaimer trilogy, will John save the universe once in each game, or will he save it in Halo 6?

He shouldn’t even be enlisted anymore. Seriously. Nobody, ever, has even come CLOSE to amounting to all the Chief has contributed for humanity. He should command more respect than Admiral Hood, dude saved the universe and almost everyone he cared about in the process.
