John-117

John-117. War Hero. Survivor. inspiration.

Chief interested me in Halo CE, he was an interesting character, didn’t say too much, but I thought he was a good character.
Come along Halo 2 when I’m a bit older I look at the Chief and feel he is incredibly bland compared to Arbiter, making me not look forward to doing Chiefs missions.
Halo 3 was just pathetic with Chief, I did not like him at all in it, he got next to no development, when he got lost in space I didn’t care as much as I did not like him at all.

Of course I was rather annoyed to find out Bungie wanted us to think we are Chief, it just feels like they were using it as a convenient excuse to avoid developing him, probably why I preferred Arbiter in the games. I got into the extended universe and felt Chief was a much better character, so I was pretty much thinking Bungie can’t tell a story for -Yoink-.

Come June 6th 2011 and we get the first trailer for Halo 4, as soon as I see Chief I think “343 will probably use the same excuse Bungie did” I was wrong.

In Halo 4 Chief is a much better character than he ever has been in the games, not only is he stranded on a planet with Cortana, she is close to death and he has encountered an enemy far greater than him. He goes as far to defy Del Rio to do what he believes is the greatest thing to do. He knows Humanity is at risk, he knows the Ur-Didact is more powerful than him, he still fights. At the end of Midnight Chief “defeats” the Ur-Didact but loses Cortana in the process, he realises he is more than a war machine, he realises he is Human. On Legendary we get a glimpse of his face, we lived through a lot of things he’s been through, he looks tired and weary.

He was a brilliant character in Halo 4.

June 10th 2013 I watched Microsofts section, pretty content with Halo 4 not expecting anything Halo related, then suddenly we get a teaser of someone walking through a desert, a Forerunner machine pops up and suddenly the hood of the mysterious hooded figure is blown off to reveal John, he’s pretty beat up.

I am very excited to see where 343 will take John in the next Halo game

Couldn’t agree more dude.

Agreed! His character in Halo 4 especially was strengthened much more than in the previous games, too.

Although the Arbiter didn’t make the chief “(boring)” for me in Halo 2 or 3.

and in Halo 3 I saw the real friendship between Cortana and the chief.

I agree with the rest

343 did a really good job with him in halo 4.

Then we are agreed!

lol thats why i am saying that 343I should full out make MC his own character, and they should take off his helmet at some point in this saga!!

I can’t wait to see what’s in store.

I wouldn’t go as far as showing the entire face, but a little bit more than what’s already been shown. Showing the full face would make it less enjoyable in certain aspects if you play any of the original trilogy knowing what is exactly under the helmet, IMO.

I think it would make the experience better as I’d feel closer to Chief as I know what he looks like, not to mention it’d make up for the lack of development

Ehhhh, it could end up being a good thing or a bad.

I agree, its just one of those things where its controversial, but it is certainly for the best that we do show his face.

I mean i would be cool if they showed half of his face or something, i just want to put something on him. I want him to express human emotions on a level not seen yet.

And after Halo 4 you have even less idea what is under the helmet.

And now I can appreciate Chief a little more in the original games
