So we all hate joining a game in progress if it’s been going for a while. The other team likely has power weapon and map control, and you’re fighting an uphill battle. My experience yesterday shows why it’s awful.
So I went into a Team Snipers match on Ragnarok. Started out alright. Everyone rushed top middle. Then I realized that it was laggy. The enemy team was teleporting around and I couldn’t hit a single one except for a few lucky shots. Every time I spawned, I was dead within about 2 seconds. I was going negative like crazy. So I figured it would be better to quit and take the hit to my CSR than it would be to sit through the rest of the game. So I quit. I backed into the lobby and picked Team Snipers again. I then joined a game in progress–the one I had just left. So I gave it another 2 lives to see if it was better, but it wasn’t, so I quit again. I backed out, went into Team Snipers again. Lo and behold, I was put into the same game. So I stayed in this time until the end. I went something ridiculous like 4 and 27.
I lost something ridiculous like 5 ranks (maybe more) in the course of 10 minutes because I quit twice, then came in last. I couldn’t handle the lag, so it’s not just because I was doing poorly.
Join in progress is possibly the worst thing that can happen if you care at all about your CSR, and is one thing that needs to be removed. How do we fix it? Get rid of it, but don’t start games if the teams aren’t full. Yeah, people will leave during games, but that can’t be prevented.
Even if these changes can’t be made in Halo 4, I’m pretty sure the Halo community would be in uproar if they put JIP in Halo 5.

Link to the game please.
I can only find a single game where you quit snipers. You then lose 3 ranks (33 down to 30).

I noticed that too. If you DNF a game, then go back into it does it get replaced in the service record? since there is only 1 game to record. (presumably the “down 5 ranks… maybe more”, was the standard exaggeration found in all of these threads… and the “4 for 27” was actually 4 for 16)
Either way, the way I see it, the issue here is that the best match MM could find for you was laggy, no?

I’ve never even heard of anyone being matchmade into a game they quit out of - let alone how the stat tracking deals with duplicate games in the history.
In my experience, people that quit are very often returned to the same game if they search again quickly. If you are disconnected without quitting, then it usually won’t put you back in.

I had it happen a few months ago. Quit out of a SWAT game that I JIPd three times. The team I joined was down some ridiculous score and spawn trapped when I joined, I died 3 times and quit. Back into search and JIP the same game, died once right after spawning and quit. Back to search and JIP the same game. We lost badly but were able to finally break the spawn trap and play some. I think it was on Complex and didn’t show 3 different games just the one, although I do think my games quit went up by two that day. The population was real low that morning if I remember right, so there may not have been another game to match me in.
Haven’t had that happen since, and none of my friends have ever seen it happen.
