Jetpack

Dear 343i and community,

Today I’m going to share with you why I believe the jetpack needs to not be included in Halo 4. I’m going to keep this very short as most members don’t want to read lengthy paragraphs.

The jetpack ruined the flow of nearly every map in Halo: Reach. That’s one of the reasons Reach’s maps were so unpopular (if you look at my other thread). The jetpack allowed users to get to places much more quickly and easily. Routes designed for the map were rendered null due to its existence. Trick jumps were eliminated.

I hope, instead, the jetpack is more like a jump-pack. The jump-pack would give users an extra “boost,” or, jump. It would act similar to a double jump. This would constrict the armor ability and not destroy map flow, considering it would act a lot like a grenade jump.

Thoughts?

It may well be a Jump-Pack. GameInformer saying “Jet-Pack” could mean it turns you into a Kangaroo in all honesty.

Has 343i referred to it as a jetpack? That may or may not be a placeholder name.

From the top of my head 343 haven’t said anything about it. I hope for clarification, if it’s Reach’s “Hover above cover and Spam Nades” Jet-Pack I’ll be disappointed.

Me as well. I hated how the jetpack in Halo: Reach was incredibly overused on almost all maps. It was annoying having to keep your eye on the sky.

I wouldn’t get your hopes up. I’m expecting a full fledged all powerful game-breaking jetpack.

I really hope not.

You would have to do that anyways on any map that has tiers or aerial vehicle

I wouldn’t mind it being a jump boost sort of idea

Aerial vehicles weren’t common enough to permit it. Maps with several tiers are a different story since they aren’t insanely common. I’m referring to maps that you typically wouldn’t have to stare at the sky for.

I’ve had this thought before as well. Correct me if I’m wrong; you’re basically thinking Jetpack should be like Halo 3’s grav lift but in an AA.

Basically, but a little less powerful.

jetpack is in no doubt about it, but it could be better and less game breaking imo.

Here’s how: Speed it up. The dayamn thing was slow take off and long hover in reach i didnt like to use it at all. The prolonged hover made it a little cheap too.

Make it a quick powerful jump of a takeoff and run out quickly i think, 2 second duration max but could get you some mad air quickly, but no fall damage, but wouldnt fly you very far across the map horizontally but could get the ups it got in reach just in 1/2 the time.

also falling on someones head from max height should kill them. (maybe)

You just described the jump-pack, aside from the last bit which I disagree with.

Omg, please let it be this!

Looking back at the trailer shown at E3 2011, it looks like it may be a jump-pack. Notice how Master Chief uses quick, short bursts of propulsion which propel him forward more quickly rather than sluggishly like Reach’s.

why do people have problems with jetpack? i don’t get it. you just slowly glide across the map with it with zero cover. a player jetpacking is an easy kill. stop running in straight lines and pay attention to your surroundings. don’t get pissed off at the jetpack because you suck at knowing what’s going on around you.

It has nothing to do with that. Giving a player the ability to move around the map MUCH more easily than others is a problem, regardless of whether they’re easy targets. It breaks maps.

Think of Lockout with a jetpack. Jumping from the bottom level of the map to the top in 2 seconds breaks the map and it’s not conspicuous, so they aren’t “easy kills.”

ok so sprint doesn’t help you move across a map in 2 seconds? come on it doesn’t break a map it speeds up the play of a game. isn’t that what everyone wants is faster gameplay? that’s exactly what jetpack does.

It’s not a situational awareness issue. The reason I strongly dislike it is because of maps like Boardwalk where players just fly above cover and throw Grenades. There’s no skill in it. It creates predictable and annoying gameplay. You can easily negate cover and map control with little talent. It’s quicker for somebody to fly up and throw Grenades than it is to DMR them out of the sky.
