First and foremost I would like to say Ive been a competitive halo player since halo 2, and since than, in each successive halo my competitive interest has gone down. Almost to zero in reach before the TU because of the bloom and somewhat because of the AA’s. (although bloom without a doubt is worse than any AA IMO, even armor lock) It should also be worthy for me to note that I am a forger and have a lot of insight in map design and map flow. That being said it is near/close to impossible to balance a map for reach’s Sprint and Jetpack due to there extremely differing movement mechanics. (without one loadout having the advantage over the other). When a Map is being built, the builder must keep in mind the movement ablity of players playing on said map. Things like jump height and runs peed all come into account. And depending on movement capablitys a map will change drastically. In fact, some maps would not even be playable if it weren’t for the amazing movment mechanics of jetpack. See below links for two examples. (both made by me)
Low Gravity Combat Simulator
Low Gravity Invasion
I am quite possibly the biggest jet-pack fan out there and almost exclusively use it when I can. Mostly because i think its a blast and brings something new and fresh to halo. Yet even I will come straight out and say it messes quite a bit with " normal halo" map flow and map control. Much of a normal halo maps geometry, routes and power postions can be completely ignored by a jetpack. Anyone who argues this fact is simply wrong. Sprint also messes with map flow and control, but not as severely and is mainly a negative because it allows players to runaway and let there shields recharge.
However, jetpack in and of itself is not “nooby” and does not need to be Nerfed. To master the jetpack, is extremely hard and takes alot alot of skill, especially if you claw and bumperjump like me. In fact jet pack is such a game changer movement wise, I believe it deserves its own playlist(a default AA for everyone) and maps exclusively built for it. Until we see this we will never be able to see the true competitive envelope for jetpack pushed to its max. Playing with jet packs as a AA (while other AA’s are also in use) on normal maps will almost always lead to a imbalance, dumbed down gameplay and lots and lots of complaining from players who don’t like it and don’t use it.
Therefore, 343i please do not NERF my jetpack, it is amazing. Rather give it its own playlist and its own custom forged maps (or disc maps that suit it well) and let the jet packers circle jerk all day! Its a WIN WIN for everyone in this case!
Anyone else agree?
I see the idea in your mind, and it sounds great. But it just won’t work.
People will still find a way to bring down the jetpack and want to NERF it. It’s never going to change unless they get what they want. And plus, didn’t 343i say Sprint would be default, so how could you have jetpack have its own Playlist?
If this could happen, it would probably be the 3rd most played playlist (Infection and Team Slayer) .

How would it not work… Its a JETPACK PLAYLIST. It would be quite apparent before entering that only jet pack is the default AA. Much like a classic playlist, or MLG playlist. Players complaining would literally have no merit for there complaints, so it would not matter. Unlike now where players actually have the right and merit to complain about it.
Sprint is a base trait not an AA. Every human that’s not disabled has the ability to sprint. Thus a Spartan super solider being able to sprint should be an obvious.
Jetpack would be the AA not the base trait. Everyone would get the Halo 4 nerfed version of sprint as well as a non nerfed AA jetpack.
to be honest, i’m more concerned about active cam than the jump pack.
> to be honest, i’m more concerned about active cam than the jump pack.
Did you even read the thread? It not about jump pack or active camo.
> to be honest, i’m more concerned about active cam than the jump pack.
That is true. Active Camo is really weird, but I still don’t have an opinion on that.
/ontopic
Salty: It might work for 1/3 of the Halo community, but not for most of us. I would be one to enjoy it, and encourage it. Some others just…don’t want it.
If 343i did make a jetpack restricted Playlist, wouldn’t that be kinda useless? How about just a certain gametype in the Team Slayer and FFA Playlists, something like “Jetpack DMR” or “Jetpack BR”.
You get the point.

1/3 is a huge chunk, hell 1/4 is even a massive amount.
Having a jetpack playlist would not be useless at all. If you read the entire thread, you would see that some Maps can be desgined so that it would literally be impossible to play without a jetpack. Those are some of the maps it would be nice to see in the playlist, but I do agree with you that even a gametype would be nice. Altough you would still see many complaints about it because its a mathematical definite that players who dont like it would still have to play it. It would be less of a fix than a separate playlist.
Looks like the thread failed, what a waste! Lets just have nukes for Halo 4 and detonate them at the beginning of each game instantly ending the game right when it starts leaveing nothing for players to complain about… The guardians would be proud.

I have to agree with you on this, but they should still add it in for fun :).
Yes, 1/3 is a huge chunk I guess, how about 1/8? Also, I did read the thread, and I did see it, but what does that have to do with anything? I never talked about maps…
And yes, a lot would still complain, but they should SUCK IT UP AND QUIT WHINING!! :D.
Halo Reach already had to many playlists, adding pure nisch playlists like “jetpack only” would only make it worse, especially since I doubt many except you and your best friends would ever play it. Not to mention people would demand (and rightfully so) a separate playlist for every AA.
Jetpack sure does effect gameplay and how the maps are played, but Invis has a much larger effect on gameplay as well as killtimes and movement (or lack of). It is also a AA that is a lot harder to balance, jetpack is already somewhat nerfed to a “jump pack” and hence is fine, you can still play customs with jetpack I assume, but expect no love from the community since we’ve had enough of the pack.

And where are you gathering this data from? Do you even know my friends? Every thread about jet pack I look at has usually a little more than half the people complaining about jetpack and a little less than half the people supporting it. Jet pack needs its own playlist, it needs a chance. It would literally make everyone happy. I think you would be surprised at the amount of people that would play it. Active camo, albeit annoying, does not drastically change how players move around a map. I mean, any map you can use active camo on you can use sprint on and access all the same areas(save a few sprint exclusive jumps), yet jet pack differs in this sense. There is literally Maps that would be impossible to play/ have totally inaccessible areas for non jet packing players. The same cant be said about the other AA’s. Thats the thing about jetpack, it literally changes the way the game is played and thats the reason there is so much hate and so much love for it all at once. IF the other AA’s affect literal movement(wich they dont) than yes, a separate playlist would be necessary for all of them, but they dont.
Jetpack is the only load out that gives you entirely different movement ability. Please dont talk for the community, your one player, speak for yourself. And if we are gonna speak for the community id say i think the community has had enough of the pack in a regular playlist on regular maps. Having its own separate playlist and maps will solve this problem for everyone. Whos not to be happy here?
Hey, you just took my idea, but you beat me to it! I was thinking about the Jetpack playlist the other day. That would be very fun to try! I can imagine a dog fighting lol.

Nice to know a few others agree. Its funny how people keep complaining about jet pack in other threads but not many are supporting this one, the ultimate fix. I think people just like to argue.
