One of the things I’ve been so excited about is that 343i decided to replace the horrible, map-breaking, strategy negating, randomness-adding, jetpack with something that I find much less threatening, the thruster pack.
at 3:02 you can clearly see a blue spartan using a jetpack. Hopefully this is an armor ability or maybe even a pickup that is restricted to spartan ops and will not exist in multiplayer. I’ve had a few reservations about Halo 4, but have overall been very optimistic. This is the only piece of information I’ve come across lately that has me very worried.
I’m pretty sure that’s the thruster pack. You can see that the spartan boosted forward, rather than going up. More info can be found here, by scrolling down a little.

You’re looking at the wrong spartan. Behind him there is one flying up.
I don’t see what the big hullabaloo is about Jet Pack. Strategy Negating? Randomness-adding? Hardly.
Im not fussed that its back. It was a fun AA that allowed for some creative game play. Either way though, I won’t really be using it.

I hope it is the thrusterpack and that he ascends into the air due to the ramped incline, otherwise I will be disappointed in 343i Though the guy in the foreground doesn’t have anything on his back (The thrusters are in his feet like iron Man) yet the guy in the background does, so it looks like Jetpack is back.

That guy isn’t doing particuarly well. He’s hardly getting kills to the point that he cant be accused of “Game breaking”. He is also getting killed a lot, quite easily.
The reason I say map-breaking and strategy-negating is because I use the map to my advantage (trick jumps, etc.) to get away from enemies or get to them quicker. I may need to hide behind a barrier to regain my shield or something like that and with jetpack, my opponent can simply fly over the obstacle and shoot me in the head while I shoot him in the feet. In my opinion, it just doesn’t belong.

I would argue that jetpack simply makes the layout of the map so much less important since it adds virtually unlimited mobility.

Still don’t see your point.
You probably know this already but opinion isn’t fact. For example, I like Jetpack. Mainly for fun factor; doesn’t mean I’m right.
Regardless people seem to have this feeling that the Halo 4 jetpack is going to be the same as the Reach jetpack. May want to think that one through because until you have the game in your hands you won’t know if you’re going to like it or not.

Of course I know that my opinion isn’t fact and I’m not trying to force it on anyone which is why I say “what do you guys think” in the OP. I understand that this is only like 2 seconds of footage, but it still appears that it works very similar to the Reach jetpack which I thought was bad from a competitive standpoint.
It is true though that it added some fun aspects to the game such as having it as a pickup in MLG and using it for different custom game variants. This is why I hope it is left out of competitive matchmaking, but I wouldn’t mind if it is still in some parts of the game.
The thruster pack is supposed to act like the reach jetpack. But I think it is going to be easier to dodge bullets and go side to side so that you can evade fire

> You’re missing the point. 90% of players are using Jetpack at a high level of gameplay because it’s so easy to abuse.

I am one of the biggest Jetpack fans you will ever meet in Halo Reach. Im the creator of the LGCS(Low Gravity Combat Simulator) the best competitive jet pack map in reach.
Team Ephinany featured it on Episode 87 of there EPIC MAP series. That video can be found Here
ITs more of a map overview than competitive game play, in fact its not competitive at all, as its there first time playing and the skill gap for this map and game-type is insanely high, I would argue even higher than standard halo.
Obviously i am delighetd to see it return. But i do feel bad for those who do not enjoy what it does to Halo gameplay. As Chewy Said, when used as a AA on maps that were DESIGNED as “normal” halo maps, The jet-pack has many route breaking, power position breaking, and layout ignoring abilities. It literally changes the game so much due to its extreme movement mechanics that Halo quite literally becomes a different game for those using it. That is why i have proposed many-times it be removed from all play lists as a starting loadout and placed on the map in limited quantities, much like a power weapon. Than it should be given its own playlist as the only available AA at start and have custom maps and good vertical disc map that cater to its movment mechanics. IMO this is the best of both worlds and would be a good median for those who hate and love it. Just my two cents
> Guys. That was a spartan ops clip. It has not been to be confirmed in actual multiplayer yet.
PS (if its in spartan ops its in wargames as they go hand in hand due to the fiction behind infinity multiplayer)

> That’s like saying the target locator was in MP based on that logic. 343i understands most complaints made by the community and that is why bloom has been mostly taken out along with armor lock. They understand gameplay is above all. Of course, that doesn’t mean jetpack can’t be in custom games.
Have you been watching all the HALO 4 interviews? Its been stated that Spartan OPs and Wargames go hand in hand. War games is essentially training for the spartan ops missons. Theve directly stated that all loadout based AA’s, weapons, tactical packges, and support upgrades earned in spartan ops will transfer to war-games and vice-versa. I will try to find the video and link you to it.
Its not that logic at all because bungie never said all the things in firefight would transfer. In fact they specifically stated certain things wouldn’t, like TL and Generator Defense.
I completely understand your point and have heard this stated. It’s even in the Infinity trailer if I remember correctly. But this isn’t simply PROOF that the jetpack will be in Wargames.

But it doesn’t EXACTLY mean that, you could earn it in Spartan-Ops, but the ability may not be available for use in competitive multiplayer aka. War Games. Fiction =/= Development & Game Design changes.
Even the suppose numbers of the community voiced that jetpack doesn’t belong into competitive play.
