Jetpack as Powerup?

So we have seen a glimpse of the Jetpack in some Spartan Ops footage, and at 1:07, you can see the Jetpack being used.

Now, I don’t like the idea of Jetpack being an AA again, I don’t like people being able to start out with it everytime they die, but what if it was a Powerup, as in you could pick it up on the map and use it until you die, then others could pick it up and use it until its fuel or battery runs out or something. I hope that’s how 343 has it, because we haven’t seen any JetPack in MP but its definitely in the game in some form. Thoughts?

That would be fine if it were a powerup.

That won’t happen. though.

I’ll have to disagree. One, we don’t have enough buttons for another AA. Two, three AA’s (Sprint, XXX, Jetpack) would simply be too much at once.

I think Jetpack should be an AA, but only available in Spartan ops, Custom game and very specific Multiplayer gametypes/playlists ( think action sack ).

Trying design map for player who are, and for players who aren’t using a jetpack leaves us with compromised maps that don’t excel in either area.

You would swap out your current AA for Jetpack, obviously.

He didn’t state that in his post, obviously.

On haven and longbow, I’m not sure how it could be overpowered… The level design makes it so that it wouldn’t be overpowered…

And I’d likely rather have a more useful armour ability.

In MLG Reach, that is how it worked. One can assume the OP is suggesting the same thing.

Jetpack should just be an AA that is respected the same way as armour lock is now. Balanced and only appears in some social playlists, campaign, Spartan Ops and custom games. NOT IN HARDCORE WAR GAMES

Perhaps we should reserve judgement until we see what maps 343i has come up with. The only kind of map that would require a Jet Pack is one where you can’t get to critical areas any other way. Otherwise, Jet Pack works on any map that is not a small enclosed place. Players that understand the limits of Jet Pack will know which maps are not appropriate and choose a different AA. Players that don’t understand the limits will die often.

AA’s as powerups may well be just fine for MLG. I don’t know because I don’t play that way. In a regular game where the entire sandbox is available to everyone I would rather spend my time killing opponents than fighting over equipment. I never fought over those things in H3, although I found it enterprising to be near powerup spawn points in order to kill opponents who apparently couldn’t get through a match without one.

In regular games, AA’s as loadouts makes more sense. You pick what you want and/or know how to use and stick with it as long as it’s working for you. If the other team can’t handle that it’s their problem.
