Jet Pack Nerfed!

Eli Gameplay 17:44

I couldn’t help but notice the jet pack has finally been nerfed. Jet pack duration is about half what it used to be and when depleted it takes about 4 times as long before it can be reactivated again.

So if you burn your fuel you often won’t be able to soften your fall and you can’t hover for prolonged periods in the air. We asked for a jump pack and I think we pretty much got it  thoughts?

It kinda reminds me of the Section 8: prejudice jetpack now.

as long as I can still chew them up with a needler I’m happy.

The closer it gets to being merely a slow double jump… the better.

Why hate on the jetpawks. :[ There are foul more effective AA’s about.

If anything jumping and flying about was actually fun and suicidal in terms of being so exposed and easily taken out.

Sure somebody managed to find a nice spot to jump onto, but that was always countered with you or someone else taking the incentive and doing the same in order to take him out.

It broke maps especially if someone who was good used it. I hate JP almost as much as AL

I can only assume you have never played against anyone who knew how to use it.

…Sorry that was impolite but at a competitive level it is considered by most as being majorly OP in Reach. Jet packing in the open is just as poor a decision as sprinting into no-man’s land surrounded by enemies but a good player would never do that. They still utilise cover and use JP to gain additional paths, flank routes and escape routes that are not available to other players. They can get additional shot angles that are again not available to everyone else. It can be used in support play to aid in team shooting without the need for good positioning. Allows for in some cases rapid traversal of a map. It can be used to dodge grenades and render a Rocket wielding enemy redundant. It can be used to get the drop on people by coming around a corner at an unexpected elevation allowing you to get the first shot in a duel…I could go on and on.

I don’t think It will change anything about Jetpack hater since there problem for them is how it allow to broke their so called precious map control because someone would use it aggressively (like I do when I use it in Reach) to progress through a map.

Reducing the total fuel time will not change anything in my opinion the only thing that it will do is prevent noob from doing the whole “going up like a space rocket and killing themselve or getting kill miserably”.

I really hope the Needler isnt a ordinance weapon in the full release. My trusty DMR and Needler load out would be awesome.

Looks so damn fun.

The Jetpack does look somewhat nerfed through the form of a much slower recharge rate. Height looks the same?

A never really had a problem with Jetpack in BTB as there is so much space and lines of sight to spot a player using Jetpack. Team Slayer and smaller game types however are where it starts to become a problem in regards to breaking map flow and control (not in a positive way).

In my opinion we are never going to know how this armour ability, let alone the others are going to affect gameplay until at least a week after release.

Good to hear. Seems more akin to the brute jump pack than Reach’s jetpack.

I would also like to add one of the biggest reasons why the Jet pack in Reach was detrimental to gameplay was directly due to map design. Things like having power weapons vertically separated, having dramatically advantageous jet pack exclusive routes and line of sights, balancing a power weapon location with disadvantageous vertical positioning that could be negated with a jet pack, not controlling and there for not balancing vertical connections, things of that nature.

After analysing the Halo 4 map designs so far revealed I have to say it looks promising. The Jet Pack might just work this time!

This ^
is one of the main problems with the Jetpack. Homing & out of sight in the sky = major advantage.

I want to try it before I start saying bad things about it.

Hope fully this is true, Reach’s jetpack was horribly game breaking.

I haven’t seen anyone make this observation yet. Everyone has sprint now so one disadvantage that jet packers used to have is gone. We may be seeing a lot more of these guys now which makes me groan. This is halo not tribes. I’m almost to the point with armor abilities that there should be quotas for each team for AA.

I hate the Jetpack in Reach more than everything else in this game (and it has many flaws) and I would be happy if the Jetpack was completely out of the game, but I think I can live with this new Jetpack.

Agreed. It should explode when shot and the person flys out of control.

Just a thought, imagine if an overcharged PP shot could disable the jet pack like how it does with vehicles.
