This happens every time new DLC is released because the developers do not put enough time and thought in to how the new content will be used. Jerome, and the mantis upgrade, need to be fixed. I am saying this not because I want him to be nerfed for the sake of ruining a character, but for the sake of returning the game to a state of equilibrium (somewhat). Everyone is using his, and the 3v3, 3 Jerome mantis rush is a bit much. Other leaders have been made completely useless now that Jerome has extremely good leader powers AND a very good leader unit. I like the new direction with cheaper leader units, but it is silly that there are four really good leader characters, and some that are almost useless against them, such as shipmaster leader vs Jerome spartan/mantis.

1.) Mantis should be tech 2.
2.) Jerome should be more expensive.
3.) The mantis shouldn’t have a shield.
4.) Other leader units should receive a buff in order to compete. I know some are still decently good, but compare Alice to the Colony leader.

I’ve never went up against a leader rush like the one you’ve described, but from playing Jerome he has honestly felt pretty squishy to me.

Well he’s squishy NOW, hours after the balance update dropped. His mantis and it’s respawn time isn’t overpowered anymore so I see no problems with him.
To OP, I say give him a week and see if you still feel he needs tweaking.

Yeah. I made this before the patch. Rather than taking a broader approach to fixing these issues they copped out and nerfed jerome, rather than addressing the other imbalances in the game.

I’m confused, how is this a cop out? They nerfed Jerome which is more or less what your suggestions were?

Honestly your suggestions would’ve been complete overkill and a brutal nerf to Jerome. Making the mantis tech 2 and stripping it of shields would’ve rendered it useless. As is, only it’s tech 1 stats are nerfed in order to prevent Jerome from dominating the early game. With the 2nd upgrade it’s stats go back to pre-nerf levels. Oh and they did make Jerome more expensive, just like you felt he needed.
Sure, other leader units need a buff but this is a step in the right direction. It’s an incremental balance change with a 1 week response time, something we’ve been asking for more than anything since launch.

Wouldn’t the mantis not having a shield unless Jerome was in it be reasonable? Keep the cooldown low and make him a little weaker?
They made all leader a little more expensive, which is also reasonable in my opinion.
