Jerkiness During Aiming: Clarification Requested

Hello everyone. As I become more competitive, I have been developing a jerkiness during aiming that I feel is throwing my shots off. So, while strafing, am I supposed to use my left stick to keep my reticle in the “ballpark” while my right stick fine tunes it? Or is my right stick supposed most of the aiming. Is it somewhere in between?

I feel like my strafes are too long, which makes my right stick compensate by jerkinging. I’ve been looking up tips and people say to alternate short and long strafes.

I’m not exactly sure what you are trying to ask, but I think this YouTube channel can help. https://www.youtube.com/user/Creolesbackfire He’s got a bunch of great tips, although they are more geared for newer players, they still helped me out a lot.

Its all a smooth, interwoven act. Think of your left stick as your feet and your right stick as where you look. With more practice it’ll become natural. Try to duplicate how your body would position and move if you were actually in the game. Sometimes its necessary to strafe left while turning right, or move backwards while looking up. Practice makes perfect, but focus on making the right stick 99% of your aiming. I highly discourage moving your feet to aim a shot.

People suggest that you aim less with the right joystick and strafe more. I do both a lot lol

Yea I try to line up shots with left stick as much as possible because of the jerkiness while aiming.

so you use the left to aim and right to strafe?

I use my right stick to lock on around corners at head height and once they cross the corner or come into my line of fire I’m already at they’re head

I’m curious what everyone has their inner and outer dead zones set I? I too have problems staying on target and turned to land my first few shots then I’m all over the place. J

Inner dead zone should be as close to 0 as possible if not 0. This is how quickly your thumbstick responds when moved from the center position.
Outer Deadzones seem to be preference. I like them at 0 so it doesnt think I have pegged the thumbstick until it is touching the edge. Others like to reach max acceleration quicker and have their outer deadzone set on the highest so the controller thinks your thumbstick has reached the edge before it actually does.

If you are having trouble staying on target I suggest 1 aim accerlation and 0 inner and outer deadzones. This gives you the most control over your reticule while sacrificing the ability to spin around quickly.

All that being said. There is still something off with the aiming in this game compared to say Halo 1 or 2. It still seems to have a strange acceleration curve even when on 1 accel.

Thanks. I will give this a try and report back.

I turned my aim acceleration down to 2 and it fixed my issue. My dead-zones are also at 0%, but those could need to be different depending on the controller. My Elite controller doesn’t seem to have any drift or slow turn. As far as aiming, you should use the right stick to get in the ball park and the left stick to put it on target while making minor adjustments to the right stick. It’s somewhat of a balance between the two with more emphasis on the left stick IMO.

I switched my deadzones off and turned accel turn to 2 and it worked like a charm! Thanks guys. Completely forgot about that from the update.
