Seriously, I was playing a game of Adrift today and I picked up a Scattershot and started looking for someone to kill. A guy with a sword came up to me and I shot him at point blank range, no kill. Shield was still up. Needless to say, he killed me. A few games ago, I had a Scattershot again and I went up against a guy with a shotgun. I shot him in the back, point blank range again, no kill, shield still up. He proceeded one shot me with the shotgun. Same goes with the Boltshot.
I appreciate its not the biggest issue in the game, however it makes the scattershot a worthless pickup. Why pick up the Scattershot when the Shotgun, sword and hammer are all superior to it, despite being in the same category as the Scattershot. And don’t get me started on the Boltshot. My solution? Buff the damage of the Scattershot to be the same as the Shotgun, so in close range it’s a one shot kill. I also recommend making the Boltshot have about the same damage as the Scattershot currently is, so it takes two charged shots to kill but that’s a different topic altogether.
Is this agreeable with everyone or has this issue been addressed and is being dealt with as we speak?
When it works, it’s great, but it’s way too inconsistent. You could one-shot someone from slightly beyond shotgun range in one moment and then in the next, you’ll need 3-4 shots to nail someone at point blank.
I know it’s got a high rate of fire, but for a shotgun it should be stronger. When facing a sword/hammer/shotgun/Boltshot the Scattershot is inferior and pointless, each of the other weapons can outshoot the scattershot easily.
Usually, I have to shoot it 3 to 4 times point blank range to get a kill with it. Other times, I aim to the left of my enemy, but the right side of my reticle is still on my opponent and I get lucky that almost all of the bullets shoot toward the right side of my reticle: instant kill.
Also, just recently, I knew a guy was camping with the scattershot, and I had a shotgun myself, and i figured, ‘shotgun beats scattershot’ (the shotgun has a good range compared to previous games), and i go in and patiently wait until my entire reticle covers him… Instead he basically crossmaps me with a single shot, WAY before my shotgun could get in range. I’m talking AR range.
I don’t understand why they don’t give scatter weapons with limited projectiles a fixed pattern. It would make the weapons perfectly consistent: if only 50% of your reticle is filled with your enemy, you will only deal 50% damage. It could also help differentiate scattershot and shotgun more, as a fixed spread around the edge of the reticle behaves differently from a fixed spread that covers the entire reticle.
I find the drawback to using either the scatter shot or the shotgun is that the boltshot is usually better. Really takes away from my playing experience.

Agreed, what’s worse is apparently they were playing with the idea of a Forerunner burst pistol as well but it never made it into the game. If it had gotten in chances are the Boltshot would have been a map pickup not a load out weapon which would have made the Boltshot a much better weapon.
Like the others say, just keep pulling the trigger some more till they die. It shoots so damn fast I don’t know how the hell you let people turn around and own you.

Hence the nickname “Lotteryshot.” Enemies seem to be able to one shot you from twice the shotgun’s range, when you use it you need four shots with it point blank to even pop their shields. TERRIBLY inconsistent weapon. 343, pleaseeee fix this in the TU. It should be a bit weaker than the shotgun, but still be able to 1sk up close. It’s supposed to be a power weapon, but it loses regularly to the boltshot in close quarters. It’s supposed to be a power weapon, the fact that it’ll lose frequently in its supposed ideal range against a LOADOUT weapon is beyond me.
I hear that the damage done depends on how many of the six projectiles actually hit a target when you shoot. Six out of six should result in a fatality. Damage decreases linearly with each missed projectile – if only one projectile hits, you do one sixth the maximum possible damage.
Its too inconsistent, one time I shot a guy, only thing in the reticle was his head, didn’t kill him, later in the match, I get the scattershot and shoot someone from at least 15 feet away, one hit kill…
I’m not complaining, I just use it as an automatic, but if its used like that, maybe rename it to the “spamshot”
You could snipe with the thing with the E3 build, then they nerfed it to where you have to unload at point blank range to get a kill. I, too, have been beaten out by the Boltshot when using the Scattershot.
I have to agree with DavidJCobb, the more projectiles that strike your opponent renders more damage received.
