I hope I’m not alone in this, but I really don’t want that to return. Getting sniped in Mythic WZFF and hearing “DEAD HERO, BIG BOUNTY” is like adding salt to the wound. I like how animalistic they are in Halo 4 (especially when one of them pounces and claws a scientist to death in Composer, that was one of my favorite little moments), and in my opinion they don’t really need to speak to be an interesting enemy.
It’ll be even cooler that if the different jackal species had different accents to distinguish them.
Honestly idk how any of the aliens should know how too speak English besides the grunts since they learn languages very fast. Yeah I know they could teach the others but like why speak English in battle when you could use your own language that the enemy doesn’t understand so you make maneuvers and catch the enemy by surprise.
They shouldn’t speak imo, i think it makes them unique that they don’t speak English and stand out more from the other races who are less savage like (even the brutes) and thus are more conmunicative and speak more languages.

For the most part I believe they aren’t actually speaking English at all, your Spartan is just using translation software. (And with this I wish we had an option to switch between their native tongue and English as an option.)
I’d prefer if they made Jackal speech a bit clearer because half the stuff they say in H5 Firefight sounds like gibberish anyway. I don’t particularly mind them speaking English because of the lore behind it and because their style of speaking fits with their species, but I totally understand why many don’t like it.
The “dead hero, big bounty” line gets pretty annoying for me too, but I think that has more to do with the way Firefight has been programmed. It seems like a Warzone mode which focuses on only AI rather than a dedicated Firefight mode, if that makes sense. To elborate, the focus in WZ is on bases and enemy Spartans. The AI adds a bit of spice to the whole thing in terms of combat (obviously bosses are worth a lot of points). So, I think they went ahead and cut down the amount of dialog available in WZ compared to campaign to avoid wasting resources which is fair enough. But, that limited set of dialog got carried over to WZF and it gets annoying and repetitive there because the AI is the focus in WZF. Point here is that this would likely be less annoying (but likely still annoying nonetheless depending on your preference for Jackals plus English haha) had H5 Firefight been given its own amount of dedicated dev time to make it a unique mode.
I dunno, I think it’s pretty funny when they yell “NICE SHOT. YOU WILL REGRET.” only to die a second later.
As Izaya said, I’m fairly sure they’re not actually speaking English, it’s more than likely a built in translation function in our Spartan’s helmets. Which, regardless, I still like them speaking whatever language your game is set to.
Another non-issue.
Every non-human species should use their own language, excepted while giving or obeying orders
By the way, why the jackals does not use energy swords? With their agility, i am surprised they do not serve as close combat units (they also have many features that make them perfectly adapted to the sword fight)
Edit I
I guess as they possess a mercenary culture, they probably do not want to take any risk and prefer to prioritize long range weapons, such as the carabines and the riffle beam.

Never said it was one. Covenant species speaking separate languages has always been an interesting part of their in-game presence to me. If you’re indifferent to it, good for you.

That line actually is really funny. I guess my annoyance just comes from the postmortem taunts, lol.

Energy Swords generally are seen as an ‘Elite’ only kind of weapon I suppose. Going beyond the fact that only those who have proven their worth can even WIELD an Energy Sword in Sangheili culture (seeing as the Covenant are backed into a corner and losing numbers by the second, so they can’t bee too picky at this point) I suppose Jackals just aren’t melee weapon users. I have yet to ever see a Jackal get close enough to want to even punch. Generally, I think they like to keep themselves mid to long range of their target; hence why they commonly use Carbines, Needlers, and Beam Rifles, all weapons with an effective range of mid to long (Needlers have quite the reach).
Yeah, that really threw me off in H5. They should be more animalistic. They should just stick to screeching.
I love that the jackals finally talk English. So I would like it to return.
I liked the English speaking Jackals too. Thinking of the whole group of Covenant species, it would be cool if some spoke their own languages and some spoke English, all in the same game.
I want the jackal to speack italian so when we overload their shield, they could yell “Mamma mia!”
