I've seen people asking for subscription based MTX

So, like, $30 per season, or something like that…

That actually, could work, but the thing is, they wouldn’t be able to make a huge profit, they would just be able to make enough to keep supporting the game and then a little turnover for the higher ups. That is a big no no to the management since they want to roll in the dough, but we’re gonna assume they WOULD do that.
How would something like that work?

Perhaps, everything could be lined up in the BP format, and then the levels have extra content for the premium pass ($30)

What all would be paywalled and free? Well, I’ve thought of that too, look below

And then coatings, emblems, backdrops, stances, weapon/vehicles coatings/modules, AI color/models

Overall, I think that this would be a good system, you get GREAT value for what you buy but you also get great progression as well.

For $30 per season, you would be getting 458 (would be more but I just counted up all the items in the game and divided by 2) items. That is 15 items per $1, or about 6 cents per item.

Now, for those of you who may be asking, “How are they gonna make a profit?”
Here is how, let’s assume they put out 1 DLC per year, it is priced at $40 (way overpriced but they already priced the campaign at $60, sooo)

Let’s assume that 1 million people have bought the campaign.
That’s $60 milliion right there.
Then we assume that, hmm, 5 million buy the $30 store pass.
That’s $150 million
$210 million so far.

Now, let’s add in 3 more seasons, that makes it $450 million.
$670 million is what they would make from this system probably, in 1 year’s time.
Since the rumors are that they spent $500 million on development (which I highly doubt with the game that we got), they would want to make $600 to get the normal profit overturn for a video game. They made $70 million extra, and there’s even more years ahead of them.

If they release 1 DLC per year for $40 and the same 1 million people buy it (which, lets be honest, there will be more than 1 million, a SP game released in 2019 has sold up to 10 million)
For 8 years, that is $320 from DLC sales.
$320 million

Now for the seasons.
9 years times 4 is 36 seasons.
36 x $30 is $1080.
That turns out to $5.4 billion, if 5 million people buy it per year.
That is INCREDIBLE revenue from a video game.

SO, this kind of system would definitely benefit both the players and the devs.

What do you think?

I think you’ve put way too much effort in to this post and could have asked the question way more succinctly without all of the needless info that noone will read.

Nah seriously though, to justify a hefty subscription fee you need to be able to make regular content drops, otherwise the price tag is unjustifiable. 343 barely have a content complete game, let alone any evidence that their content team can deliver an expansion’s worth of content every season.

So the premise of this whole post is kinda meaningless. They sell battlepasses & cosmetics right now cause that’s what they’re capable of producing in a reasonable timeframe. Could this be improved? Hell yeah, but until they can provably produce significant content drops, there’s no point speculating on novel business models.

P.S. counting “armor pieces per $” is beyond pointless because you only wear like 10 max. Quantity does not good content make. Idgaf if there are 1000 armor pieces per season if the only content in the game is a super soldier fashion show.

I know but I like to lay out everything in my posts

I don’t know about you but 6 cents per cosmetic is a good price. If you don’t think so, that’s a you problem

If what they have now is what they are capable of producing in a reasonable timeframe, than this system would work. It literally is just counting what the game already has.

What does that have to do with anything, lol.
I never counted armor pieces per $, I counted cosmetic items per dollar. Which, 1 cosmetic for 6 cents is a damn good price if you ask me.

Literally the same damn thing. You’ve completely missed the point of what I was saying. Ultimately everything you’ve proposed is just “Battlepass model but with more stuff” which is hardly innovation. Point still stands that nothing here is new and there is zero evidence that 343 has a robust enough content pipeline to justify a higher subscription fee than their battlepass already asks for. There’s certainly discussion to be had about maybe raising the battlepass price coupled with putting less cosmetics in the shop, but the way this post is constructed ain’t it chief.

Sh*ttest idea ive ever heard in my entire life to be completely honest

Please let’s not try to appease to the devs.

I’ve seen enough stockholm syndrome for one day.

Let’s try making a working game first before all of…well…that.

Did I say it was innovation?

The BP right now is good value, what the frick are you talking about? If they can’t pump out the same amount of content as S1 has, then the game is going to almost zero progression
Even if it was 20 cents per $1, that is 600 new cosmetic items per season, that isn’t bad
And the evidence is there, the fact that 343 has content already ready for S2 is evidence enough that they can pump out cosmetics every season. They did it for MCC, not nearly as much stuff but cosmetics take very little time to craft.

So lemme see if I got this right.
50% of the cosmetics are free, with the other 50% locked behind $30, this is all a Battlepass form of progression.
That isn’t good to you?

Could you elaborate on that please?

I don’t see where I’m appeasing to the devs. You get 50% of the content for free, the other 50% costs $30, costing 6 cents per cosmetic item.
I see people saying $1 for armor pieces are a fair price, so you would imagine 6 cents would be a bargain.

Lol, if I had stockholm syndrome, I would have 80% of the cosmetics locked behind a paywall…which is basically what they have now, except it is 90%

Definitely.

  1. Desync
  2. Cheaters
  3. Content (modes/maps)
  4. QOL features and stuff that should’ve been in the game from launch
  5. Progression/customization fix

I would have no problems with them implementing a subscription type model where you pay $40-$60 a month to unlock everything in the store that is released while your subscription is active. So long as they don’t take away (or should I say so long as they improve) the current “only buy what you want” model.

$40 per month turns out to $120 per season, $480 per year, $ 4800 after 10 years. That’s quite a bit of money, just for cosmetics.

Definitely

I mean, I wouldn’t subscribe to it. But i could see others doing so.

I probably would every other season or something

Solid Ideas. And $30 per season is reasonable, IF we get New Maps, weapons, modes and vehicles.

5 maps are what we appear to be getting in S2, which is a big chunk of content.
Don’t know how many modes, from the leaks, I am assuming 4-5, which is also good. Then we will have the fracture event that (I’m assuming) would add another mode (hopefully a unique and fun mode)

I really don’t think 343 is hurting for money guys.
NERF, Rockstar, nail polish, doritos.
Cat ears, $20 snail trails, $20 skins-
Like.
The battle pass sales?
Campaign sales?

They’re more than fine. I don’t think trying to find new ways to give 343 MORE money will teach them anything, or net us any amount of new content that isn’t behind a paywall.

343 should add a “donate to 343” option to the store

Literally, maybe then I could play the game, complete tasks, and look unique based on what I accomplish in the *dang game, not “oh look at that guy. He paid to look like that.”

We get more for free and get more value from the BP than we do now, so I don’t think I am trying to find new ways to give them money
