I've adapted to two Halo titles and still

I hate what Halo has become. I was going to post this last night but I was still suspended so I didn’t. Now I don’t care who reads this rant but hell.

I’m moving to The Halo Council forums. I know people aren’t going to care but I’m tired of seeing threads addressing what needs to be fixed in Halo 4 being shot down by people who think this game is perfect and needs no fixing. I understand, that it is their opinion about Halo 4, but understand that People went back to Halo 3 because of what Reach became. People are going back to Reach and Halo 4 because of what Halo 4 has become. Reach is more Halo, then Halo 4 is. Halo 4 in my opinion is better then Reach, but Reach is more of a Halo game then Halo 4 ever will be.

The biggest mistake 343 has ever made is fusing the canon in Halo 4 together with both the Campaign and matchmaking. Halo 4 is too focused on the Chief and Cortana, and not on anything else. I can understand 343 wanted to dive deeper into Chiefs humanity but in doing so they have left out the biggest growing community that has started in Halo since Halo 2, the Sanghelli. It’s what made Machinima more creative in terms of having a Covenant-like oppoenent. I don’t care if you have canon in a Halo title. It cannot work with multiplayer. I can understand that there was a slight imbalance in Reach’s Spartans and Sanghelli but the balance was perfect in Halo 3. The Spartan IV armor which is supposed to be GEN 2 is tied into Halo 4’s cannon and it ruined multiplayer. Why give us armor mods when we originally were able to pick up grenades regardless. Why give us Power ups in ordinace drops when they were simply just placed on the map before?

Then people starting labeling others as original trilogy fanboys. Well let me explain something. Those of us that have been around since Halo CE…know how a Halo game is supposed to operate, know how every mechanic is supposed to work, as knows how competitiveness is Halo is supposed to be because we have experienced it for the past 9 years. Reach was taken off the MLG circuit. MLG threatened to throw Halo 4 out of MLG because of the -Yoink!- Gaming Tournament which is rumored to be teaming up with MLG. Halo has been the face of MLG since Halo 2. If MLG had a tournament for Halo 2, you knew tickets were going to be sold out quick and to expect a crowd. People have nostalga(sorry if I spelled that wrong) for Halo 2 and Halo 3 because they were the most competitive Halo games, and I’ll push it through that competitiveness in Halo is what made Halo so great, not just the casual play, but the competitive aspect of Halo and it disappeared in Reach and Halo 4, and it’s what I want back, what I want to see again in Halo, and judging by the community, it’s hard as hell to ask for it when people keep on shooting others down.

Ranked and Social playlists were there for a reason. They were there since Halo 2. People talk about the original Halo trilogy because the formula worked for 9 years!! Ranked and Social were there because you could take a break and relax in Social once in a while if you wanted to. Most people however did play in Ranked because you had to work to keep your rank, you had to play hard to keep yourself from losing the rank you had just gained. Thats why the system workjed regardless of the flaws because you had something to play your hardest for, you had something that motivated you to keep on playing and made you keep on playing. Then once you had your 50, you felt accomplished because you had made it up with the top players in Halo, and you had to keep playing hard to keep up and not let other players gun past you and take your spot, that’s what competition in Halo 3 was. That’s what competition in Halo 2 was. That’s what people are asking for in Halo 4, is competition, it’s what we asked for in Reach. It wasn’t just to have fun, it wasn’t just to have incentive, it was to play hard to get to the top and stay there and prevent people from jumping over you as much as you could. That’s why the system survived and is still surviving in 2012. That’s why the system is still working 6 years later, that’s why people still are and have gone back to it. Halo 3 had something for casuals and competitives, so why can’t Halo 4 have something as well.

I know, right?

Every thread turns into a mucky -Yoink- fight about casuals vs competitive or something, everyone posting the same exact thread over and over, only to be shot down by whatever troll (in a matter of speaking) gets the first reply in the thread.

I’ve tried switching forums, but the only issue is the low populations at other forums.

Plus, I’m used to this UI.
I’ll try THC, too.

I wasn’t speaking about the fights of casuals vs competitives. I’m speaking about the threads addressing the concerns about fixing this game and instead people get shot down by others that think is perfect and telling them to adapt and what not. It’s like no one wants competition in Halo anymore even though some of us are pressing very hard for that specific aspect of Halo.

Alright well good luck being at The Halo Council. It’s much easier to have a discussion when everyone agrees with you.

The worst part is that Halo Reach was a SPINOFF which was the whole reason for all the changes. And 343i was too stupid in this game’s development cycle to notice both that, and that most players hated it.

> Alright well good luck being at The Halo Council. It’s much easier to have a discussion when everyone agrees with you.

sigh Can you please come up with a more actual counter-arugment? This is what I’m speaking about in my OP. I’m not speaking of where its easy to have an dsicussion where everyone argees with eachother. But people that want Halo fixed address our concerns of what needs to be fixed on Halo 4, but we get people who shoot us down with simple comebacks such as adapt or go play Halo 3 then, but we don’t want to play Halo 3, we don’t want to be play Reach, people want a competitive aspect of Halo 4 and thats one thing it’s lacking in which has been stated many…many times!! But it’s seemingly impossible for people to address their concerns for the game when people are on these forums who possibly have Halo 4 be their first Halo or started with Reach and havn’t an idea of what people are speaking of on the subject of what competition in Halo is about!!

> The worst part is that Halo Reach was a SPINOFF which was the whole reason for all the changes. And 343i was too stupid in this game’s development cycle to notice both that, and that most players hated it.

Yes, and I can understand what they said about change, but change because you think it’s what the fans what, isn’t whhat what a lot of fans want. What they think is competitive, isn’t competitive to us.

why would they all agree? am i missing something?

anyway if the game isnt how you would like it dont play. ill have fun without you and so will others.

been here since CE

It’s not really a discussion if one side puts their fingers in their ears and goes “LALALALALA CAN’T HEAR YOU, YOU JUST SUCK, ADAPT” and ignores basicly anything that’s been said.

OP is right, competition is missing, both incentive to win as well as a balanced competitive environment, but there are people who oppose everything saying that it’s still competitive and that you don’t need a number next to your gamertag to “have fun”, completely missing the whole point of compeitition even though they are talking about it.

Exactly my point.

I’ll say it once and I’ll say it again as it’s been stated many times. The term FUN has many definitions among both casual and competitive players. Everyones definition is different though competitive players may not have the same definition of fun as competitive players.

Might I also ask did you even read my OP…at all?

Stopped reading after that.

I shot people down, but by no means do I think this game is perfect. By no means do I think its the best Halo. But you know what, the haters brought this upon themselves. Their constant -Yoinking!- is annoying! Its not constructive, its mostly flamebait and insults! Why can’t they be constructive about their opinions? Why can’t they be organized about it? These guys are! I have a respect for them because they may be violent about their opinion, but at least I don’t see thirty million threads saying the same thing! If the complainers are organized about their opinion, then by all means, I would leave them alone. Hell, I would probably even agree with them. But no, they always are violent about it and say the same thing and are ruder then hell! Then they complain that they get their opinions shot down. NO -Yoink-! You just insulted everyone who likes the game, told them they were trashy Halo fans! I can’t imagine why they hate you. Its like hitting your head against the wall! STOP THE PROVOKING! STOP THE REPEATED THREADS! STOP THE UNNECESSARY COMMENTS! STOP THE CHILDISH BEHAVIOR! Get support for your cause, be organized about, keep it clean, and then they have respect! What the hell is so hard about making a single thread trying to rally fans together? There are thousands of you guys who are unhappy and you’re telling me only one of you can make a well thought out thread (Time Glitch)? If thats the case, then you don’t deserve to have your voice listened too! You don’t try to rally support for your cause! You rally hate that gets your thread locked and then you complain about it! Where is the sense in it!?

TL;DR- Stop being so damn rude about everything and stop the repeat threads, then people might actually care about what you say and not shoot your opinion down!

Not to mention most constructive posts get instantly buried here.

ill say it again if you did not understand the first time.

if you do not like the game dont play it. if your going to whine and complain that its different and you dont like it, WHY PLAY?

> if you do not like the game dont play it. if your going to whine and complain that its different and you dont like it, WHY PLAY?

Yeah. Why try to improve the game in order to make it more enjoyable for the masses? Why try to improve gameplay in order to bring more players to the game?

Let’s just drop critisism, complaining and whining and let i343 do as they wish, perhaps they’ll do a lucky strike the next time, or perhaps the time after that.

If you don’t point out what’s wrong or not enjoyable, then the developers won’t know what to change or improve.

I agree with you although, I’m not being rude about everyone and I’m not speaking of shooting opinions down in that regard. I don’t like the repeat threads either but 343 has proven that they do not interact here on the forums at all. Bungie was actually more interactive on their forums. I understand 343 interacts on Neogaf but the community wants their attention here. If they are listening, they make no mention of it. We aren’t acting childish or immature. If people feel that 343 isn’t listening they are going to make threads about it, even if they are repeats. Time Gitches thread is well thought out I’ll agree but so is my OP asnd I hammer it down and backed it with as much evidence as I could hence the title of the thread.

You speaking about the haters on this forum are the people who want this game fixed the most. I’m now however saying you don’t because I’m sure you do as well. But the more constructive threads on here (not the I hate Halo blah blah blah threads) but the threads addressing the games needs get shot down as I explained in the OP. My thread had no intention of shoot anyone down and if you read the rest of my OP which I ask that you kindly do, you’d see where I’m coming from.

The game has some issues no doubt about that, but in my experience all forums look just like this one. Can’t please everyone and fan boys and upset consumes will always be the biggest voices. I’m willing to be the Halo Council forum won’t be much better, and besides forum opinions really don’t seem to make a huge change in current games and only modest changes in upcoming games. I really just come on here to burn time at work and throw out some opinions from time to time. Maybe you are taking the forum a bit too seriously?

And I’ll say it again to read the whole OP and not ignore it. I whine and complain because I want the game to be fixed and if you cannot come up with a half decent counter-arugment then why are you still replying?

Halo Council is that page where “serious” players says that everything after Halo CE sucks and are giving up playing in the end?

Has that ever worked for you?

Have you seen any video game where the developer has looked extensively at their own forum online, made all the changes that the forum has asked for and then gone on to have a game populated for a long time?

I can’t think of an example where a developer has actually listened to a community and made all the changes they wanted. Bungie didn’t do this with Halo:Reach. Epic Games ignored players when they said the Sawed Off was OP. Valve invites players to their HQ but keeps the game as it is. EA and DICE ignore the forums and sometimes do the opposite of what they request.

Guess what? 343i is doing what they wish and while they keep telling you “We listen, we read the forums” they most likely read the forums for a laugh, pass out a printed version of some of the posts here around the office as a joke.

No game company has ever listened to it’s fans. The only time they listen is when their game stops selling and then they just dump the franchise and move on (EG: Guitar Hero, Bizarre Creations, NBA 11-13).

The more you realize you’re not being listened to, you’re not going to be some revolutionary change in a video game, and you’re not going to have an impact, the happier you’ll be. You won’t set yourself up for a massive disappointment.

Lastly, when you realize that NO GAME will ever be as good as a previous game in the series, you won’t be disappointed. There will never be a game as good as one of your favourite Halo games, there will never be a Call of Duty as good as Call of Duty 4, there will never be a mario game as good as Super Mario World, etc. We get trapped in a nostalgia bubble and think “Oh this next game is going to be amazing! I will re-live all those awesome experiences I had with the older game, it will be just like that!” and keep buying into the hype and keep disappointing ourselves.
