If a majority of your store options require at minimum a full hours work at the country’s lowest minimum wage the purchases are not Microtransactions. Buying gum for less than a dollar is a microtransaction. If you offer options in the store that are 1/3 the price of a full release game you are not a microtransaction. Gosh I remember the good ol’ days when someone could spend less than three dollars and get weapons skins for all the weapons in a game (Think Black Ops 2). Now companies (Including 343) charge you more than that just to get a skin for 1 gun! Where did the industry go wrong? We had it right. I blame mobile games.
Yea the mobile game I currently play charges up to 50 for a character skin, and people do pay for it lol. You can obviously get a new game for that. But as some will say, cant control what others spend their money on. I thought map packs were fine and y’all were cheap dummies for not buying into them. I’d happily pay 15 for 3 maps once a year instead of taking that 15 to another game that I realistically don’t have time to play. I just liked halo that much back then, it was a 10/10 in my eyes and was more worth that extra 15 once a year than some random 8/10 game - we live in era where there’s 50+ 7/10 or better games released each month. Only have time for the elite games.
I’d rather not pay for content that splits the playerbase. Cosmetics are literally inconsequential to the long-term effects of player population and matchmaking search times compared to the effects of paid content packs.
Where I live, we have something called a meal deal which is about £4. You get a sandwich, a packet of potato chips and a drink.
The battle pass is two meal deals. Feels okay to me.
Yeah, I’m gonna call them what they really are: Rip Offs.
a 20 dollar bundle in COD gets me more stuff than one from Infinite.
Heck the battlepass in COD gets me more stuff than the one in Infinite (because stuff is duplicated in Infinite to pad the pass)
If they want me to at least buy some stuff they should just scrap the current store system and just let players buy each individual cosmetic item for 200cr a pop, and also make it to where the BP isn’t mostly just challenge swaps.
I don’t think mobile games are necessarily to blame.
The blame lies with people making these purchases. These purchases add up to billions more in profits than the standalone purchase model.
If people vote with their wallets, the industry will change direction. Until then, there’s simply too much profit in this monetization scheme for them to stop.
People are voting with their wallets, it’s just not voting in the direction you want unfortunately.
It’s okay for me though as I want more F2P games but I understand how frustrating it must be to be on the other side of it.
There is nothing wrong with the f2p model itself, and honestly I don’t mind it. But store pricing for cosmetics is only getting more and more outrageous.
Blame Valve. They popularized f2p and battle passes.
Auld days* not OL’
Yea im the same. Goes to show that they studied that market for F2P games and saw what they could make and went " you know what would be crazy…to crazy it might work! Let’s triple the prices and see if anyone will purchase them. I mean its just a number game…all it will take is one person to get the ball moving"
One person and the rest will fall. Say “its normal nowadays” and in that moment 343 is a monument to all of Microsoft’s sins
That’s an easy question. Games back when were created by gamers. Today they are created by investors.
F2P, sure, but not battlepasses? Unless DOTA has a Battlepass I first heard of them in the mainstream through Fortnite and Rocket League.
I don’t really mind the Microtransactions as long as the core Battlepass is good; This one is severely lacking, but the feedback should improve future ones. The flights had a lot of customization IIRC. That’s likely locked to season 2+, as 343I has two armor cores to populate over time at minimum.
343 and any other modern day company: I like money :3
This. This is the one and only time I will praise Activision and their monetization practices. At least the price you’re paying feels worth it when you buy their CoD Battlepasses or Store bundles (usually, some bundles are definitely rip offs, but the vast majority are worth the price). On top of that, you technically only have to pay for the Battlepass once, and you’ll get enough credits back each season to buy the next battlepass and have a little left over to spend on whatever. Definitely far better thought out and planned than whatever the hell this is in Infinite.
I blame the player base, on these very forums and ingame quite alot of people are complicit in buying crap from the store without hesitation, and they really don’t have the common sense to understand how detrimental their actions will be long term, encouraging this predatory behaviour from 343 to sell more stuff back to us at a high cost.
It’s always the desperate, weak willed or the whales who can’t help themselves buy everything and then say stuff like, Oh it’s only 16 pounds for the battlepass you can afford that right ? or that armor set is only 20 pounds surely you don’t have to take out a second mortage for that, cause if you do maybe you should put the games down and get right first ?. Their all a complete contradiction of themselves and the exact opposite of what the player base stands for. It’s like trying to get your point across to morons who’s don’t realise their morons, but they still think their better than everyone else.
Considering we’ve all waited very patiencely for Halo Infinite, what 4 - 5 years at this point, how’s about sell us a finished game without MTX’s, including everything 343 promised us.
I agree with you on the COD battle pass, it’s the ONLY battle pass I’ve ever bought because it is value for money, you complete the pass you end up with enough game currency to buy the next season for free and it’s normally filled all kinds of goodies; character skins, weapon skins, all manner of customization options and special legendary skins in the last 10 ranks of the pass. I don’t understand given all the options to choose from and years of developement why the Halo battle pass is such trash as you’ll know you look at all the free rewards 95% are filler crap like exp buffs and challenge swaps what a fantastic rewards system for time wasted.
What confuses me the most is how 343 managed to take 20 steps backwards from the…I guess you’d call them battlepasses? in the Master Chief Collection. You could obtain every piece of Reach’s armor through that just fine in 100 tiers. Clearly there is enough to fill out 100 tiers of rewards on the REACH themed season/battlepass, but now there’s a possibility that pieces of the Reach armor sets will be sold in the shop? This comes from a leak, so I don’t know if it’s true or been confirmed but regardless I don’t like the sounds of it. It unfortunately seems likely to happen/be true with the current monetization of Infinite.
Yeah precisely, I’d rather them just copy the MCC system over and improve it then deal with the crap 343 are putting out for Infinite, it’s disgusting !
These weapon skins, what exactly do they do? If people are paying money for them they must have a huge advantage - I heard infinite was free
I totally agree, paying $20 for a weapon skin that doesn’t help you at all in a game, doesn’t make you better and only shows how shallow people are to complain about it is outrageous!. We should totally make it $40. If the color of your skin makes a difference, teehee, enough said
