Right now the bot bootcamp is way too easy to serve any purpose it was intended for, whether for practice, warmup, or just pve fun. I see a few different solutions for this to be implemented to work as the game continues to exist.
- Monitor how your average bot match goes manually, and keep the difficulty of the bots in matchmaking at a level where matches are a proper winnable challenge. I’m not a fan of this since it takes more consistent work on the devs’ part.
- Create different playlists for different difficulties of bots so people can choose what they want to play against. The best solution on paper, but could end up splitting players across different playlists making it harder to find bot games.
- Create a SBMM-esque system for the bot mode that checks your win/loss ratio for the playlist, and matches you against harder bots relevant to your skill level, with flexibility for higher or lower difficulty bots if it has trouble finding games.
- A mix of 2 and 3. Being able to select the difficulty you want, but having the matchmaking system expand the search to different difficulties if it can’t find a match.
Also as an aside, I hope we get bot AI updates to use vehicles, and a playlist for bot BTB.
