So, BTB has always been my Halo home. Since forever. Since Halo 2 almost 20 years ago. I’ve been playing Infinite BTB since launch now and I’ve created a roundup of the good, the bad, and the ugly. Feel free to add more below for 343’s eyes.
The Good:
-lots of players, I like the player count, feels like it fits the maps perfectly to have tons of others but not so that the whole thing is flooded
-most weapons feel like they have purpose as either direct attack, team support, or anti-vehicle, whereas in smaller gametypes many just fall to the wayside
-the vehicles are incredibly fun to use when you can get them, the Wasp is kick -Yoink!-, the Ghost rips
-Fragmentation is a good Valhalla homage and the terminal hacking for power weapons is a neat mechanic
-traversing with the grapple hook is fun
-High Power is nearly perfect, is has everything a BTB map should, dense and regular weapon spawns, constant vehicle drops, regularly spawning air vehicles, and good design in general with a mostly open concept on two sides
The Bad:
-Vehicles are suffering due to the fact that they get utterly shredded by AR fire, even doing only hanging back strafes in the Warthog will leave it on its last legs pretty often
-Vehicles in general are way too underplayed on Fragmentation and Deadlock and should spawn far more regularly to both sides
-needs way more grappling hooks around the map rather than sensors
-need more fusion coils to throw around, it’s a fun mechanic yet you never see them much on BTB
-friends don’t seem to be put on the same squads and what purpose do squads even serve?
The Ugly:
-Maps aren’t small in terms of boundaries, but Fragmentation and Deadlock feel convoluted and cramped sometimes due to the weird fixation on adding in gulleys and ruts and lanes (which also hampers vehicles)
-Scorpion/Wraith are like mythical unicorn creature, you can play for days on end and never see one spawn, they should hit the map at least 2-3 times per game on both sides
-Deadlock is straight up a bad map that I simply exit out of most of the time. The ONLY fun aspect to it is the cannon that only spawn ONCE then if they blow up they’re gone for good. You only get one hog regularly per team, and random vehicle spawns after that, weapon spawns feel sparse and light. It just feels like some sort of small gametype map with small gametype weapon/vehicle spawns stretched out huge.
I’m really hoping that with the full release update a lot of this is addressed. The biggest thing that can improve BTB is simply giving Deadlock and Fragmentation the same sort of regular vehicle and weapon spawns that High Power has so they’re more satisfying to play around in.
