343 has made it clear in public that they (A) didn’t include in-game ranks in H4, and (B) made H4’s multiplayer easier (ordinances, etc.) because they wanted to attract casuals.
Here’s the problem. About 150 years ago, Karl Marx came up with the idea of communism. Communism was the idea that “everyone can win” if no one has to compete (just give everyone the same amount of money!).
But communism was a disaster for everyone. Why? Because people naturally want to compete.
This is also why H2-H3 were incredible successes and H4 a failure. You don’t attract anyone by making things less competitive. Millions of competitive people played H2 and H3 for years to compete. And the “casuals”? They ALSO bought and played the games to compete. They played to GET BETTER.
THIS is what Frankie and 343 are missing. NO ONE benefits from a system that rewards mediocrity. Human beings like to compete. If you give them something non-competitive, people walk away.
END OF STORY
Why would they make a console game for casual players, whose only purpose for owning a 360 would be for Netflix?
Oh you forgot to mention that COD became popular after Halo 3 it was going to downfall despite how “crappy” Halo 4 was it is not the reason for a population downfall
Concept you don’t understand OP:
Why would a dev cater to only a specific minor part of their community? When a dev makes a game they typically want to make a game that would appeal not to just their core crowd, but EVERYONE! Not everyone who plays games care about rank and crap. They literally only play for fun and fun alone.
The competitive crowd is like 0.0000000000000000001% of the entire community. Why can you not get this through your heads?
Your Karl Marx reference is completely stupid and I also reported this thread for trying to start an argument.
Really? You report a thread for simply expressing a point-of-view? Wonderful. Censorship for simply expressing a view?
I’m not a fan of Karl Marx either even though I suck at halo!
BADMAJIK: you completely miss the point of the argument. The argument is that “dumbing down” something drives everyone away, even casuals. If you don’t believe me, look at population stats. I am not asking 343 to “cater” to the competitive .0000000000001% of the population. I am saying that everyone – even casuals – are attracted to a competitive environment. When people play a GAME – whether it’s cards, or basketball, or baseball, whatever – the game is only fun if it’s competitive. No game is fun if there’s no incentive to win.
> BADMAJIK: you completely miss the point of the argument.
So you admit you’re trying to start an argument.
This is clearly not leading to a positive discussion, so I’m locking this thread before it gets more out of hand.
