Because CoD is trying to be like Halo, at least in the setting(sort of)
Can’t find the trailer but it will be revealed tonight on TNT. It’s another Cold War set in the near future. Apparently the US army is dissolved and now it is an army of technology.
It’s ok. CoD thinks they have to copy games to be a success as well.

Just because it’s set in the future, does not mean its copying Halo. There are plenty of diverse Sci-Fi genres out there.

I think you’re missing the point of my thread

So you are saying that we will have two sci-fi CoD games?
I don’t think H4 will be like CoD.

This is what I am trying to say. Although I think wasn’t that clear in the OP. No matter how much or how little one game takes from the other it is still going to be the same.
Halo will take aspects from CoD but still play like Halo. The same with CoD.
Halo isn’t copying cod and cod isn’t copying halo. We don’t want to go on about what games had what first.

Call of Duty took what worked with Halo and built it’s own innovations and ideas around those solid concepts years ago. Halo could do the same, retake it’s top spot and become glorious again, but I don’t think this fanbase will let it happen. Don’t take everything mind you, but look what CoD excels at.

It’s easy to put stuff in a casual game like CoD, but it’s hard to do the opposite to games like Halo where balance is a major part.

Then 343 better know what they are doing. I know the fanbase wants everything they remember from Halo 2 and such, but it may not be enough to best CoD. Wish it could be, but I have my doubts.

No, he isn’t.
He restated what you said and implied. And then pointed out how wrong you are.

Still don’t get it.
Seems to me that Halo is trying to be its own game, while CoD is trying to be more like Halo.

Just watched the trailer. It looks nothing like Halo. Looks so much like Terminator though.

Sounds like wishful thinking on your end. It’s just expected at this point. No going back to WWII, the Cold War period as done already and the “modern” period finished up. Only place to go is the near future.

You may be right, I was just going off what I heard, but I just saw the trailer now. BO2 doesn’t look like Halo at all, but it looks absolutely ridiculous. I thought Woods died, and the technology seems too advanced for about 10 years in the future, maybe 50 years. Plus MM looks like it would be outrageous, and not in the good way. Might be worth a rental, but probably not gonna buy it.
Fact of the matter is BO2 WILL out sell halo 4, why- because it comes out on all platforms.
However Halo 4 will destroy Bo2 when it comes to sales on Xbox and most importantly the size and well being of the community for halo.

Plus now, with the “future” aspect, they might have lost a good chunk of their community right now.

I agree Halo’s Sandbox balance and flow is much more difficult to achieve, than a class-based game where all you have to do is build on more customization and more gimmicky mechanics. Look at Halo maps for example, built on flow and weapon placements while CoD maps most of the time encourage camping and ruin the gameplay by trying to be “realistic”. Look at how a minor flaw in the DMR’s reticle bloom threw off Halo’s whole competitive play, while if there was bloom implemented in CoD with that same very flaw it wouldnt matter because the encounter wouldnt develop long enough for that flaw to be exposed.
Also, look at how Halos vehicle Sandbox has to be balanced so they are not OP, but not made so they are paper vehicles with no fun factor. Halo also uses multiple types of projectiles while CoD only used insta-hit hit scan projectiles, I can see why Bungie has made mistakes in the past and how making Halo work properly would be much harder than other FPS. Halo’s balance is hard to achieve like fine wine, but when you do its better than any wine you have ever tasted. While CoD is like box wine, everyone buys it because its cheap and gives them their buzz, and the work needed to produce it is minimal.
If you wanna get technical every fps ever made is actually copying off of maze war. Also just about every thing in the world is copying something else.
