Even if Halo 3’s population was ever that high Halo 4 still being at 40k looks pathetic in the long run lol.

Its sad… But i will still keep playing halo if it was just me and a lobby again 
There are so many other big and good games out there now, so its hard to keep everyone play Halo 4 right now 
With the next xbox, i guess Halo 5 will take the crown fast and hold it long.
YOu do realise that the Halo 3 population counter used to glitch out a lot and give fake populations like that right? And great way to pick a time in Halo 4 when NO ONES even on due to the time.

If halo 4 wasn’t a generic COD clone. It wouldn’t be suffering this much. If it was more halo 1-2-3 not reach ARENA STYLE fun competitive & social gameplay maybe with a halo 3 art style slightly improved not star wars maybe it would be better but no 343i chose to stick to the generic mainstream crew. Hopefully halo 5 will be what I just said “halo 1-2-3 not reach ARENA STYLE fun competitive & social gameplay maybe with a halo 3 art style slightly improved not star wars”…if that makes sense and I forgot to add remove all COD features in Halo 5. Just test that game to see if it will do good if it went back to the classics. If it fails make halo 6 however you like (or try out halo 2 anniversary original multiplayer with new graphics but that wouldn’t be as popular Obviously as a main halo game)

It started bugging out after reach released because they changed the ocunter to 24 hour based when reach released. That’s why it showed 7 billion people playing halo 3 in 2012 for me. Just stop with the excuses okay?!
EDIT: By the way over 1 million people played over the launch weekend of halo 3. It was a record yet to be broken. Microsoft and Bungie recorded it.

What’s really sad is that Halo 4 has never hit a million concurrent players, and it’s just been getting lower by the day.
Both of those counters are flawed. You seriously think only 1000 people were on war games at that time. That HAS to be a misreading. Maybe even down servers. Whatever. As for the halo 3 population number. That was close to it’s peak. Times are different now. Other MAJOR games exist now. Geez people. At least try to understand some of the different variables to population decrease in games over time. Last but not least. It doesn’t matter if there are a few thousand max in the highest populated playlist in halo 4. If I could find a game when I’m not playing all the other great games that I have then that’s great. I still love halo.

The only thing that counts is that we still play it I will play it as the main xbox live game till the next Halo game comes out Halo 4 will not die at all before Halo 5 have been around for 5-6 months maybe. Many still play Reach, and even Halo 3 COD have the main base on xbox live right now, but with the new xbox i guess the Halo people will have that befor the cod’s. So Halo 5 will most likly be the main online game on the next xbox (i guess) like Halo 3 was in 2007-08

-Gears of war
-Rainbow 6 vegas
-Crackdown
-Lost planet (it was the top dog for a while then died)
-Halo 2 (even went up to 50,000 during halo 3 launch year but died a year after halo 3 launched)
-Assassins creed
-Mass effect
-MW2 (the most popular COD and halo 3 still holded 100k-200k and even beat MW2 in the top spot a few times…weird while halo 4 can’t hold even near BO2)
Those are some big rivals.

It matters because the video game industry is different. I did say that in my post. People have many more choices now and the multiple Call of Duty games hold the crown now. Back then I don’t remember liking many games to be honest. Populations of other games dilute each other.

true story about the rivals… Now we even have bigger ones. When Gears comes out i will play that online a bit, but i have allways time for Halo We still must remember that Halo 4 is still in the top 5 list over much played xbox live game (week)

Sorry to say this but to me those were hardly rivals. I could give reasons why as to each wasn’t really a rival but that would only lead to senseless overdone discussion. Once halo 3 had that top spot. No game would knock it down. It was a big fish in a small pond.

COD has allways been Halo’s big rivel, and its still the one leading after some years by now. Any other title is not winning over Halo (without the first two weeks after launch)
