Its impressive to look at all the DLC we've gotten

With the last of the monthly DLC being out for a while, I decided to look at the community updates for each DLC drop and skim through them to see all the free stuff we got. Scrolling down to the bottom of each page and reading exactly what’s in each update really shows just how much we got. All the stuff, big and small, has made Halo 5 one of my favorite games in the series, and definitely my favorite game of the past 8 months.

Seeing the enthusiasm of the 343i guys on their stream with each DLC reveal, and seeing how they reacted to many of the voices of the community (WZFF, Sanghelios map, and many others) is really cool as well.

I honestly think it is cool we get this support, but the game should have been delayed. Then I think it would be much more crazy to see what they would come up with after the game was completed.

No, these are updates to a shallow game. There’s no reason why most of these updates should have a paywall, especially considering the crazy amount of money they make off REQ micro-transactions.

Shallow game? Doom just came out and was $100.00 for the game+DLC, it had less maps, weapons, gametypes, and vehicles than H5. H5 still had free DLC which included huge things like Forge and WZFF.

I don’t think Halo 5 was a shallow game. Look how little Overwatch launched with, it doesn’t even have singleplayer and had less gametpyes, maps, vehicles, and weps than H5.

We used to have to pay for DLC, it generated less revenue for the people who made it (Bungie and 343) but the quality of the DLC, the multiplayer maps, were much better than what we have now. They’ve generated so much more money selling REQ packs now, yet map quality has declined. They ought to invest more into their own games, rather than making it rain on the HCS.

Compared to past Halo games, of course it’s shallow.

Missing game modes and modified maps some of which were forge are not impressive they are a joke as they 100% should have been in the game day 1. Yes they added a few original maps but only really to warzone.

Most of the free dlc as people call it has been skins just designed to inflate the all ready bloated req system. I still feel even after all these updates Halo 5 is lacking, I see people compare it to DOOM here and say DOOM has less content which is true but DOOM is primarily a single player experience and It’s all about what is expected from a series. In a DOOM game people generally expect a fast paced brutal single player, the multiplayer is tacked on as an after thought really. Halo on the other hand is pretty much consoles heritage in multilayer and has been super expansive in each game so for Halo to to be missing out most of its core content then just add in “remixes” and the content that should have been there already is a kick in the face.

I really never thought I would see the day when Halo would end up like this. Even if you ignore all the dlc stuff the game still feels like it’s having an identity crisis, while Halo 5 is more Halo feeling than 4 the aesthetics have lost there character, the game looks as bland as a new off brand breakfast cereal you find on holiday and the gam play keeps incorporating cheap mechanics because they feel they need then to stay relevant. You don’t need to be like everyone else to be fun and on the flips idea of what I said previous you don’t need a lot of content. Look at over watch for example it has a few maps and 2 game modes. Yet hundreds of thousands of people can’t stop playing it because it’s just super fun, no silly mechanics like ads or sprint needed apart form one or two characters who boast them as their playstyle. The game is just simple fun and it shows.

Rant over, I love Halo with a passion it has been my favourite game series and book series since I was a kid and it inspired me to do what I do today and become a 3D artist. I owe a lot to Halo and I just want to see this franchise succeed and I know it eventually will end because that’s how games work but I would love to see at least one more great Halo game before that happens.

I knew H5’s DLC was gonna suck the moment they mentioned the eistence of “remixed maps”
Remember those 15+ maps we were promised?
Only 10 of them are dev made, the rest are forge maps

“Free” DLC came because:

  1. They took out:
  • Gametypes - > Infection, Race, King of the Hill, Juggernaut, Oddball, Assault, Ricochet.

Then later added some of those gametypes in.

  1. Remixed the Arena maps, and even Warzone map bases are remixed.

  2. Just added new skins and variants to weapons.

But at what cost? No splitscreen, inability to Forge offline or online without Xbox Live Gold, redundant maps, no built-in BTB maps.

Halo 5 is now fun, but unlike Reach or Halo 3, I can’t enjoy the game offline with other friends nor get them interested in Halo again at my house because there’s no splitscreen support.

13
New maps (6)

  • Battle of Noctus (Warzone)

  • Torque

  • Tyrant

  • Skirmish at Darkstar (Warzone)

  • Attack on sanctum (Warzone)

  • Prospect (Warzone Assault)
    Remix maps (5)

  • Riptide (Fathom remix)

  • Overgrowth (Plaza remix)

  • Stasis (Torque remix)

  • Molten (The Rig remix)

  • Urban (Noctus remix) (Warzone Assault)
    Forge canvases (2)

  • Ascendance

  • Tidal

Honestly, the content was only free because the content was not ready at launch.

These updates should have been released on disc day 1 to be honest. Firefight Forge etc all should have been day 1 stuff.

And still most of the maps arr boring remixes.

Sometimes I wonder if we would have received these updates if fans hadnt complained.

Shallow by Halo standards

It’s missing more things than you can shake a stick at. So no, objectively, it is the complete opposite of impressive as the game shouldn’t have been incomplete in the first place.

The only thing I’m grateful for are updates to Forge. Literally everything else was either missing, or just rubbish that I don’t care about.

When did you start playing Halo? Was it Halo 4 or Halo 5? Have you even played the other games?

This kind of blind optimism depresses me.

When I look back at what Halo 5 started with, I see all the free updates as less “impressive” and more “necessary”.
If they had tried to charge us for Grifball, Assault, Infection, etc., I would have stopped playing.

Have you ever actually compared the launch + DLC to other Halo games? I don’t think we’ve gotten this many maps and stuff from a Halo game. Halo 5 currently has more content than most others. The DLCs for past games included remixes and Forge maps also.

I’m just glad we can finally start to consider H5 a full game now. the DLC NEEDED to be free because really now that we have it all its the first time the game starts to feel like a full Halo title though.

I’ve been playing since 2001, check my profile on here, it doesn’t go back that far but it should show H2 at least.

I don’t have blind optimism, but I don’t have blind hatred or rose tinted goggles either.

Check the DLC for beloved games like H3, they had Forged maps and remixes also. In the end they had WAY less content than H5 does now.

It’s not impressive at all when you realize the dlc has mostly been 343 finishing the game with content that should have been there at launch.
