Its important you get the launch perfect...

Look at halo MCC, the game is great now but no one is playing it. Free to play doesn’t mean anything, halo MCC launched strong and the issue was player retention.

I cannot stress it enough how impatient first impressions are to get people hooked into the game ie Dota 2 and league.

Delay it if needed but launch had to be perfect with tons of content just like Halo Reach had.

Joseph Staten tweeted during last tech preview they accidentally sent out campaign leaks. So even if they wanted to delay again it wouldn’t be wise at all with those spoiler bombs floating around out there.

I agree that they need to get this launch right. If they don’t, this’ll be the third Halo game in a row with an at best underwhelming release.

I disagree that f2p can’t help patch holes, but you’re right–first impressions are once-in-a-lifetime.

There’s a key piece that people are missing here: there’s no consequence to a delay. People will gripe, but they’ll be the same ones who show up next year no matter what to play.

If they start working on forge up 'til release and start releasing updates on that, that’s their whole silver bullet for reengaging the hype train up to launch. Forge world made HUGE waves at pax and comic con years ago. That impact won’t mean as much if people are already trying and/or have already tried the game.

Yeah I read them, but what does it change? The people who want to see them will see them

Not really. Spoilers would eventually be unavoidable given however long the game would be delayed again. It would ruin the whole campaign and probably other features as well. Best thing to do is launch this holiday as scheduled.

The worst attitude in the world is, “Let’s rush launch to avoid spoilers.”

That is not a reason to release a game earlier than you otherwise might.

You “delayers” have a very selfish attitude yourselves. The game isn’t rushed at all. It’s been 6 years. With possible campaign spoilers lingering around out there that could ruin the entire game for EVERYONE if delayed again.

Right. And that is not a reason to release. You don’t release your book half-edited or missing side-character chapters because your transcript has released and everyone knows the major plot points. Did GRRM rush to release his 6th and 7th books because everyone was going to watch the show? No. He’s taking his time, and doing it right.

Infinite isn’t rushed. It’s been 6 years with a delay. It’s only rushed to you because it’s not yet going to have a single aspect of the game you like. It will, just not on launch. Most players care about multiplayer and single player campaign. Sorry but it’s true.

Yes, and gamers are also heavily susceptible to the buzz around a game’s release, particularly when it’s core fans being put off.

Core fans (not all of them), made a stink about sprint in multiplayer for years, and 343 finally seems to be addressing it, and for the first time in years you’re seeing almost unilaterally positive buzz around the game’s multiplayer.

People, non-core fans, respond to that and are receptive to that.

Here’s another stink we’re having to deal with, because the suits are pushing for an incomplete release that many fans, myself included, feel disrespected by.

A delay hurts no one, because anyone bothered by a delay is still going to show up next year to play.

Exactly. There you go. “It’s just a video game.” I.e. It doesn’t matter. But actually, it does matter, and I think we should treat it that way.
