It's funny when people say H5 doesn't have ADS

Because it does, and nobody outside this community thinks it doesn’t.

Star Wars Battlefront: Iron Sights vs. No Iron Sights - Podcast Unlocked - IGN

“Star Wars battlefront does not have ADS. Which is a surprise because every AAA major FPS has ADS now, including Halo 5, the series that previously never had ADS.”

PS, good job SWB and DICE. Way to stay true to roots and avoid caving to gaming fads.

I’ve seen Halo fans say SWB is the most similar game to Halo they know of, interestingly enough. I wouldn’t know, I’ve never played it. Have to respect their decision to stay true to themselves instead of selling out.

Anyways, does Halo 5 have ADS? Well, yes and no.

I like to say ADS for convenience sake, because it practically is.

You’re looking down a sight, your spread is tightened. The only differences are that your strafe capability isn’t completely destroyed like it is in other games, and the tightening isn’t as severe. Though they are pretty significant differences.

That sounds exactly like destiny’s ADS mechanics. Which is called ADS, by Bungie.

If you ask me, Smart Scope is a completely unnecessary change from what used to be a unique Halo mechanic.

Ultimately, without these two significant differences, is it worth the effort it takes to argue this point? Tbh, I’ve just kind of given up on the ADS thing. For me, it’s most damning contribution to the game is the fact that it’s on every gun. Long gone will be the days of the skilled Plasma Pistol wielder.

who cares halo 5 will be better then this battlefront game mark my words. Saving this thread after both games release to prove my point. We are getting one of the best storyline in halo since IMO halo 2.

Funny thing. 343 calls it smart scope, but everyone claims it is ADS.

Budgie calls it ADS, but if we follow the same pattern, should we call it ADS as we know it?

SWB is only ADS free so that third person users don’t get habitually curb stomped. H5G ADS is cosmetic so who cares if some like it and use it ?

Mhmm

What?

Personally I prefer to avoid labels when possible for a lot of reasons. Mainly, I don’t consider them very helpful. There’s very few times where anything is entirely black and white. Halo for example, it’s not an arena shooter (seriously anyone making this claim needs to play some matches of Quake), but it’s not a millitary shooter either. It, like many other forms of media, doesn’t strictly fall into one category.

But anyways, Halo 5’s aiming system has many obvious similarities (not just cosmetic either) to the “ADS” mechanic. I think it would be pretty blind of anyone to argue otherwise.

As for semantics…nasty argument to get into, ultimately pointless.

I didn’t know you could play Halo in 3rd person, and by the way SWB will still have ADS as there are precision weapons, also SWB is the last game I would use as example of staying true to roots but well… So you would like to only be able of firing from the hips?

It frustrates me when people say that Smart Scope is only cosmetic. More differences are there than you think. Even if it were only cosmetic, why change it?

Do we have any confirmation on the effect of SS on plasma weapons?

The last point is a strawman.

There’s “ADS”, and there’s “Scoping”.

Not wanting “ADS” doesn’t equate to wanting hipfire only.

> What?

You claimed that Destiny has similar ADS to Halo 5, and since Bungie claims its ADS, that’s what it is.

343I claims that it’s “Smart Scope” instead.

Who is the greater authority?

Until Halo 5 you couldn’t scope the assault rifle while firing. Does that have sense being a Spartan who is firing? This is the closest thing we will have lore wise, they only need to throw away the increased bullet spread, which they said they were, didn’t they? (serious question)

I don’t think either is a “greater authority”. I believe in this regard that Bungie is simply being genuine while 343 is being intentionally deceptive.

Thanks for another thread contributing to your Halo 5 Guardians hate campaign. The person in that interview just saw the sights in Halo 5 and called it ADS, which only shows how little he cared to actually look into it before commenting on it.

Can we stop this stupid discussion? Go back to any other Halo game and you’ll find the scope tightens your spread, makes you move slightly slower, and slows your aim. The contextualized scope is in place to attract modern shooter fans, but the mechanics from past scope-in are exactly the same. And the scope on weapons that didn’t previously have it is a welcome change.

Just please, stop.

None so far. However, the very fact that a scope exists on a weapon that has been forever tricky to pull off in hip-fire does immediately throw up a red flag for me. I saw it’s effects on the Magnum, the Sword, the SMG and the AR and I’m inferring that, if it is to be similar to any of these in any of these weapons, I’m scared out my mind for the guns we didn’t see in the beta. Unless they’re overhauling SS specifically for Plasma weapons, I’ll remain skeptical.

Really. I guess you and I must have been playing different Halo games then.
