It’s been nearly, what… 3 years since the mass exodus from Halo 3 to Halo:Reach; I’ve only popped in my Halo 3 disc on occasion for one or two matches, as it’s usually been next to impossible to find a game most of the time. Until now.
But I’ve gotten so used to the new gameplay mechanics introduced since then; Armor Abilities, loadouts, ordnance, all that… I feel like I have to learn how to play Halo 3 all over again.
Still, I’m having fun; I sorely missed dual-wielding, and I’m loving the chance to pick my old dual Spikers or SMGs again. Not to mention; no Slayer Pro in regualar playlists (I HATE that gametype) vehicles in Rumble Pit (I’ve missed this) and also the vehicles aren’t made of tissue paper.
It’s good to be back. Don’t get me wrong, I love Halo:Reach and Halo 4, but you know what they say… you can’t beat the classics.
Same here man. Been getting my -Yoink- handed to me just about every game, I’m starting to get the hang of it again though. I’ve completely forgotten where all the weapon spawns are and I’m paying for it big time.
Playing again I was kind of rusty. I mean when I still had the game before halo reach came out a lot of games I would get mvp no matter if my team lost or won and coming back to this game after a long time. I failed miserably and kept getting the bottom score. Now after a few games of having the bottom score I can get mvp again. So I had a really rusty start.

just noticed i played you in btb…you guys beat the -Yoink- outta us…lol good game
I just finished downloading Halo 3 a while ago. My first match in what feels like ages was on Last Resort in Social Slayer. I haven’t played H3 in 3 years, except for the rare match or 2 every like 8 months, but I still remembered where the Brute Shots spawn, so I had one the whole game. I also still know all of the maps like the back of my hand, and a combination of this, my BR and my BS, I went 17 and 2 and got MVP my first match!
It also helps that I use Bumper Jumper, and the controls haven’t really changed at all since H3, so I feel right at home xD
I think I’ve definitely picked up some bad habits from Halo 4. What’s worse for me is that not only have I not played Halo 3 in a while, but I haven’t really been able to play many games at all for the past month or so.
I did so horrible in my first match today I almost wanted to quit because I could hear my teammates complaining about me, but I finally started to do a little better towards the end.
I am rusty as well. After playing Halo 4 for so long it made Halo 3 feel much harder. Oh well. I just have to keep on playing and eventually I will be as good as I was a few months ago.
It really brings you back to all the fun you had. Also never used bumper jumper and switching to that off the bat being back helped. Having no clue where any of the weapon spawns is makes it all new again. Pretty funny when no one races to rocket launchers on maps because they don’t know they are there today. Just takes afew games to get the rust off and back to punching people in the face/crouching to sneak around.
Playing Halo 3 again…w/out all the perks / here’s your weapon pointer-outers / Here’s your medal for being a good girl / sprint (don’t hate me I like sprint and jetpack hee) / and most shocking to the system - no points for assists…I have had my butt cross fired, fried up, and handed to me on a plate over and over again.
But that is making me strong, having not too many options forces your to play the head game and learn your enemies movements and strategies while they learn yours, and out-wit each other. You have to use strategies with what you have on hand, not a random new weapon dropped at your feet…to remember to jump into a mongoose instead of relying on sprint, to be strategic on where you are walking, and to LOOK AROUND instead of relying on the radar 100% of the time…no radar while scoped in-learn to aim de-scoped.
But the colors, the graphics, the pace, the MUSIC! This is a stately gorgeous game that has substance with a pay off at the end of the game that you are working towards, not a bunch of insta-payoffs where you are surprised the game ended with a meh.
I’ve been enjoying playing this so much in customs and MM!
Halo 3 will make me strong again, like the best, a Spartan II.
> > Nice to play the original Grifball again, the future iterations just never felt like an actual game.
>
> Whoa, sorry for a n00b question. But what Playlist is Grifball in? Is there a dedicated playlist in Halo 3 that I just overlooked?
I’m sure most people who’ve returned are a little rusty. The jump height, and how slow you move were the hardest things to get use to again.
But I’m not going to worry about it because I won’t be back with Halo 3 for long, this resurrection was dismal, there are still too many team boosters, laggers, general idiots who decided not to participate but refuse to quit, or intentionally betray you for power weapons to bother putting up with it. Reach is a better experience for me even though it lacks the quality maps and vehicles on TS maps.
Loving this game, finally getting my groove back. And honestly the graphics are very impressive, the spartans look way better than Halo 4 and I think overall I enjoy the art style a lot more than Reach and 4.
