It's a Trade Off

Many people are getting angry over the fact that armor now effects gameplay. I understand that, but I feel that 343 are making a trade-off in the armor system. For instance, the normal Mark VII armor stats would show up like this.

Speed: 100
Damage: 100
Accuracy: 100
Explosive Resistance: 100
Stealth: 100
Damage Resistance: 100
Hitbox: 100

Then Recon armor would be something like this.

Speed: 100
Damage: 100
Accuracy: 100
Explosives Resistance: 90
Stealth: 110
Damage Resistance: 95
Hitbox: 105 (Larger number the smaller hitbox)

Something like EOD would be similar to this.

Speed: 95
Damage: 100
Accuracy:100
Explosives Resistance: 110
Stealth: 90
Damage Resistance: 110
Hitbox: 95

I really don’t think we have anything to worry about. Halo games are meant for balance, so I’m sure that they will keep balance true with the new armor system.

No… an armor system like that is the last thing we need after a blow to the population that was Reach.

Don’t mean to throw terms around but this sounds like Team Fortress.

A pro/con system is not balanced. It creates unfair situations based solely upon which “perk” you chose, just like Reach’s loadouts.

This, i dont like predetermined or favored fights because a dude plays 50x more than me. I want to be beat if they are GENUINELY better than me.

I agree. i had high hopes for this game and now they have been dashed on the rocks because 343 wants to appeal to the meathead simpletons that play cod. there is NO way it can be balanced. there will be someone that finds the armor combo that just destroys everyone else. there goes your “balance” its spelling terrible gameplay already

I’d rather keep armor purely aesthetic. I don’t want a certain ugly combo be better than my preference in looks. that defeats the purpose of personal customization over practical customization.

What it does do however, is make people specialize. It’s the next best thing to armor abilities. However, there is too much potential for abuse; few kinds of permutations will we looked upon as “best” and everyone will only try to choose those few customizations. Customization of stats has failed time and time again to provide a balanced game, and usually ends up with a majority of people choosing some overpowered customization that makes the game unfair for those that refuse to use said customization/aren’t a high enough level to get it. It begins a process of grinding that wastes the time of those who can’t afford to play more than a couple of hours a week (yes, that would include me). Halo has always been a game where I can jump in and enjoy a fair fight no matter how I customize my looks; call of duty and Battlefield have sometimes required me to grind so I can reach a level where the tools at my disposal are at par with the rest of the community. Please don’t turn Halo 4 into one of those “grind so you can actually play equally” games. That’s why I play Halo in the first place.
