I usually am pretty happy with my purchases regarding video games and movies, but with Halo 4 I’m quite bummed. I jumped onto the pre-order wagon several months ago when the details weren’t as clear as they are now. I bought the LE for one reason and one reason alone: the Forward Unto Dawn “copy” I assumed was going to be on either the second disc, or a separate disc on it’s own.
(Yes I’m aware of what assuming does :P)
Time has passed and now the details are a bit more clear. FUD is something I download through Waypoint, onto my Xbox, and I can watch it from there. My problem with digital content is that usually means no subtitles… And sadly I need them, as I’m hard of hearing. I use subs on all my games, I have to buy headsets, and crank the volume all the way up so I don’t upset my neighbors, or roommates.
I bought the Halo 4 console, the LE of the game, and the Tritton Warheads, and I still wont be able to enjoy FUD.
Does anyone know for sure if the Bluray, and DVD release of FUD will have subtitles included? If so I guess that’s my only option…
Have you considered watching it on youtube? It’s got subtitles. Just click the CC and english. Just tried it out, they’re actual subtitles rather than the “audio transcribe” or whatever.

I have not, I wasn’t aware that was an option truthfully. Will the extended cut be on youtube as well?

I did the same exact thing! The captions are actually spot on!

Sadly no. Only the extended cut will be found on the LE.

That’s a drag… I mean I paid for it after all. Maybe someone on these forums will have a better use for it than I come Tuesday morning…
If I had the LE (with the extended cut) and something to record it with, I would upload it to my youtube channel and subtitle it for you, but I dont. That’s one possibility that someone could do for you

Unfortunately, not very clearly. With stuff that isn’t exploding or really loud, like yelling, mostly it’s mumbling. Honestly the Tritton’s were my last ditch effort for a headset anyhow.

You can probably get a torrent with the subtitles eventually
The first few parts of FUD has subtitles on YouTube. You’ll have to torrent the rest of the parts and use a website like subscene.com to get subtitles for these videos. (These videos are already on YouTube so you’re not pirating).
You’re outta luck for the extended edition. This is exactly why I cancelled my LE preorder because I’m not gonna pay extra for something I can’t understand.
By the way, I heard that the cinematic videos for each spartan ops episode/season doesn’t have subtitles. But the campaign and in-game spartan ops are fully subtitled which is a huge step from Bungie’s infamous disregard for the deaf and hard of hearing.

English subtitles for the long-playing version of Halo 4: Forward Unto Dawn are functional on the console version of Halo Waypoint. You can turn them on in the settings menu, which is similar to a DVD menu.
