It’s Not Enough

And instead of fighting back when you knew that co-op wasn’t going into the game at launch you forked over $60. Really stickin it to those shareholders eh?

Quick question: Who do you think is more likely to look at this forum thread? Shareholders? Or individual 343 devs?

I asked you a hypothetical question about how you’d handle unforeseen roadblocks that jeopardized deliverables and how you’d meet deadlines anyway.

Yeah this is a fair point. Have played halo for 20 years. Lets face it there’s loyalty there beyond reason.

Also a good point. Did you read that part where they were saying “post your concerns”. How do you think they can win over an argument on a shareholder… with data. People aren’t happy with us prioritizing the store over the gameplay. Shocking I know but there you have it. I’m adding to the data that they can present in their meetings.

Also easy. A project that has been well planned can have resources shifted on and off it.
You don’t let people write their own code to whatever standard they want to. You give them the codebase and standards for them to work to whilst on your project. That is why we are able to call in contractors to finish off the palletizing robot, because we have a codebase in which it must be designed to. And everyone that works on various teams (or is in the books for standby) is trained in this codebase.

If we are doing something a bit different then these issues are tackled or RnD’d early in the project so we don’t get caught with our pants down on some respawning issue (which is hard to imagine that it couldn’t be foreseen)

We need them now. Not tomorrow, not after breakfast, now. This site really sucks. Just give it a try.

So your solution to the hypothetical I proposed is increased contract work on Halo Infinite? Or is it to shift resources away from other features to get co-op out on time?

My solution is to increase the staff period. They have what 16+ studios now. You don’t think that in that they can increase the head count of permanent staff… / have the man power to shift around resources when it’s needed.

besides. It took them how long to get this iteration of infinite out… who is developing the next. I hope that this 10 year game doesn’t just have continues seasons with shallow “events” like halloween and what not.

I hope the employees of 343 can adjust their state. It makes sense to regard it as the highest priority.

I think of what happened in Capcom many years ago.The most terrible thing about office politics is that it will let people who have the ability to develop good games leave.
Because the team will no longer focus on ability or game development. What matters is which side you choose to stand.

At the same time, I hope they can deal with the problem as soon as possible, enrich the game content and maintain the update frequency. Don’t let players down all the time.

two new maps & a glorified free for all mode isn’t enough to placate me for another 3 months of a supposed live service game with less content than Halo 3

I want (but i know we’ll never get) a better UI because the current one is abysmally pathetic & Custom Games to be fixed in time for Forge.

I’m pretty confident my expectations are still too high.

Lots of people were hating on me before launch when I said I had the strong suspicion they were going to launch broken and incomplete with lIvE sErViCe as an excuse.

Never been this sad I was right.

Yeah… back in 2020 I thought the same. I legitimately had hope for the year delay though.
All we’ve heard for the last 3 years is how the slipspace engine is going to speed up dev work on the live service game. Yet here we are.
I’m not “done with halo” still love it. And the campaign was decent. But yeah the community is dying faster than halo 5. Depressing.

Had a quick read… main part to take away: no need to start the game until season 2. Well done 343… you had me for roughly 3 months.

Let’s see how long ONE map (i only play 4v4) and probably 2 modes will keep me playing season 2.

Pro tip: if you want a work life balance, first things to do:

be smart about your timetable
be realistic about the goals you can achieve
be honest to your custumers AND your superiors
don‘t ship broken/halffinished stuff with the attitude „we gonna fix it later“

Maybe someone tells Bonnie Ross and co such 101 things on how to run a project.

With respect, no these aren’t the only two options. These are the two bad options. There are two more good options which competent management should employ:

  1. Never get into this situation in the first place by managing the project better in the first place.
  2. Hire more new permanent staff.

I am a developer (not on games tho). My employer has hired me to work on a specific project that won’t take too long (I hope lol). But I’m also permanent. Why you ask? Because once that project is done I can then expand on its functionality. And I can move on to another project with the knowledge of the product & department I’ve built up so far being a huge benefit in that. And I can help with the maintenance and expansion of what I’ve built. Eventually I’ll be managing a team of people who work on the codebase I built because then it’ll need more people to maintain, and it’s crucial I’m there cause I built it. Plus having permanent staff on your team gives huge flexibility for that team to make something new when needed, without gong through all the admin of hiring new people etc., you can keep it all in house (much cheaper that way too!)

This is what we mean by good management. You’re going to keep getting into senseless strawman arguements if you think everyone disagreeing with you are pro-crunch or pro-contract labour. The way this game should have been made, and should be made from now on, is by building a well functioning studio of permanent game devs who spend huge amounts of time working together, are all united in their creative vision, and all have good understanding of (their part of) the games code structure.

Unfortunately it seems from glassdoor / various other sources that 343i or MS haven’t done this, and may still not be doing this, which is why we’re making so much noise about it.

There’s also other aspects about the games underlying structure itself being laden with technical debt which I’ve discussed in another thread, which is a somewhat seperate but likely interconnected issue that comes about with too many people coming and gong on a project like this.

Basically the code might be a mess that’s super hard to work with because it was built by so many people / sensible design philosophies were not followed / were not followed consistently / were not fixed before they became too ingrained in the system. This means fixing it or creating new content takes way more time and labour than it reasonably should.

Again, this is usually a symptom of bad management and a lack of permanent developers who would otherwise become team leads who understand the code and ensure good practices are followed. It can also occur simply due to inexperience / incompetence or lack of proper training.

It’s Bill Gates Microsoft, dude. Of course they are going to milk you. Bungie sold out a long time ago.

While all this is true, what do you want them to do? They have clearly f’ed up, and there’s probably no easy way to fix all their internal problems.

Do you want them to just turn off infinite since it’s clearly not ready? Some people, few, but still some, enjoy it to some degree.

It’s disappointing. Halo was insane and could have been again with how cod and battlefield left the door wide open, but they dropped the ball.

You guys need to take a break and play something else. Wayyyyy too many games out there to even sit on these forums, posted from the toilet ha.

If nobody hasn’t watched 343i vs the world on YouTube I highly suggest you watch it, all of it. It is long, but it’s well worth the watch and it goes over their map design from Halo 5. Which is just recycled maps with a different look.

We’re only getting two maps and I can almost guarantee they are half butted, rushed and recycled maps.

It’s already been confirmed that Slipspace engine is using overhauled code from Blam! engine, so it’s not a new engine built from the ground up. They could of at least taken a map from Halo 2 anniversary (like lockout) and threw in into season 2. It would be nice if they would take an OG favorite and starting adding them per season.

Halo 5 will never come to MCC. It will be a separate purchase.

Also, how bad will the PC port of Halo 5 be? Look at everything 343i has done: The port will not be in good shape day-1.

I almost choked when reading the update and one of the first things they mentioned was making sure everyone there has a “work/life balance.” Says the company that took a 3 week vacation 2 weeks after launch :joy::joy:
What we need is some competent people that realize they suck, put their nose to the grindstone, and stop being a bunch of babies.

The fact that they’re saying their second priority is making sure Season 2 launches on time on May 3rd is also very alarming. That definitely does not inspire confidence, they sound like they’ll be lucky if they can even meet that deadline.

All in all, this update confirmed pretty much what most of us thought. Halo infinite is in a disgustingly horrible state and we’re looking at probably 9+ months before the game is worth half a rat’s behind.

Agreed.

Some form of weekly update dedicated just to the game, showing us the inner workings week to week would be nice. Not individual dev’s tweeting etc, one solid weekly whats update, showing acknowledgement of known issues, plans to address and tease future content.

Just something.
Honestly this update in regards to the May update- is all we had for months. Most of the intel on future content comes from leaks within the dev team anyway- leaked onto youtube and spread around like chinese whispers.

Weekly updates, focused on Infinite. Is the bare minimum of what a live service should entail.
