I am so very sorry, but I am done with Halo. Halo Reach was a disgrace to the Halo franchise and I thought to myself “I can’t wait until Halo 4 comes out, its going to be Halo again!” But then Halo 4 came out and I was very disappointed. I don’t know how everyone else feels but the lack of quick updates to balance the game and make it playable is appalling. Additionally, the lack of focus on competitive gaming is awful… I have been a major Halo fan since CE and I played “for fun” until about halfway through H3 which is when I started to take gaming seriously, and I will never go back to casual gaming. Not to say that casual gaming is bad, because it has its place, but for me, competitive is way more fun and rewarding. But now, its irrelevant, since the skill gap is so small and there is no way to measure skill anymore. I know ranks aren’t a perfect way to measure skill, but at least its way better than nothing. Halo 4 being dropped from the MLG circuit and no in game ranking system were the final nails in the coffin for me, and I feel like I wasted $60 on this game because I put almost no time on it. There are so many things wrong with this game and I tried to be vocal in hopes that 343i would listen to me and people who have been telling them exactly how to make their game better for months now, but that simply has not happened. I realize the title update is coming out soon, but that is irrelevant. It has taken too long, there will be no ranks, no MLG playlist, no MLG tournaments, and who knows what they’re actually going to “fix,” probably nothing important. So with that, my friends, I must say farewell to a franchise that has been so wonderful and given me so many memories, but has let me down so much over the past few years.

As much as I dislike some things in this game and I am severely disappointed with matchmaking and yes I prefer Halo 2 & 3 , I wont quit Halo. Halo has been my favourite game since Halo CE and I still prefer Halo to every game out there . I plan to stay with it till the end .

I feel sorry for you OP. I feel the same way. Many people have been let down by this and it all started with reach. Don’t worry though. I am optimistic that anoter series will come along to take the place of Halo. I know nothing will be like H1-H3, but something may come along.

Thing is, your opinion on what would make the game better, isn’t necessarily what everyone thinks would make the game better.
You can still play competitively without visible ranks. If you compete to win, you are being competitive. Go into every match believing that the other team is better than you, give yourself the disadvantage mentally.
I can’t stand MLG, but I am definitely not a causal player. I took a slight break around christmas because I got some other games, but I still play Halo 4 daily whenever I have the time.
I missed the part where MLG was the end all, be all of decision making for competitive players. Yes, they are a big community of competitive players, but what they suggest isn’t always best and I’m glad 343 knows that.
Yes, they can have their settings and maybe a playlist in the future, but I can almost guarantee it won’t stick around due to population.
Op, while we’re all sad that you’ve lost interest in Halo 4, this post was hardly worthy of starting a new thread. There are plenty of open topics on the matter that you can contribute to, or many blog sites that may be better suited to your posting style.
alot of the balence issues may not be as simple like to nerf the boltshot without making it either a magnum or short range plasma pistol or to weak
remember they can actualy change em n test em out before they update
i agree i was very partial to the H3 competitive playlists when playing to win but mostly like social to just play for fun (fun as in tactics with low chance of sucess but if pulled off are epic)
i would like that back but not be all end all
main thing is fileshare for me so that players can create it there own fun if only tht worked =/
finaly about balence i actully think this is most balence halo so far (yes ordonance can mess it up sumtimes) but in weapons this is only 1 with out an OP starting weapon
H2 = BR
H3 = BR
HR = DMR
H4 = depends on the player and situation
there are impovements that can be made i wont argue wi that but when i take off the nostalgia goggles only thing i miss are
H3 scarab battles
H3 choppers
less stickies n plasma pistols at spawn (makes warthog very sad)
and some gametypes/customations
