It killed me. Nerf it. But seriously.

  • Boltshot. I walked around a corner without bothering to check it. I did this 5 or 6 dozen times and died every time. Boltshot is OP. There is clearly no counter against this.
  • Mantis. I keep getting killed repeatedly as I run up to board it. Every time. Nerf it. I shouldn’t have to use a known tactic to defeat this thing.
  • DMR. Omg it’s a 14 round sniper rifle that still takes 5 shots to kill someone with it. Way too OP. I can’t walk around in the open without getting owned. Nerf it.
  • Binary Rifle. Omgwtfbbq why does this kill you in one shot to the foot??!!1 Nerf it.

Actually of all of these, the only things I am not sold on it how ludicrously easy it is to get headshots with a DMR at medium ranges. Long and close are about even, but mid range battles… easy mode. Actually that is the intended role of the DMR. It is weaker up close and at long ranges (yes, even at long ranges people), but in mid range combat (where almost everything happens) it excels in a seriously big way. You don’t have to bother zooming in at all, in fact doing so makes you less likely to get a headshot. People complain about this being so OP because mid range combat is the bread and butter of halo. That is where you are fighting MOST OF THE TIME. So naturally, the best tool for the job is going to be complained about endlessly.

It also just so happens that it is useful for popping a sniper in the face 4-5 times from across a map as well, but that isn’t where you see most of the “problems”.

That and the reticle bouncing upwards when you get hit need to be changed, being knocked out of zoom is a major combat mechanic in the halo universe. The way it is now, the person who shoots first wins at medium to long ranges almost every time.

Essentially, every gun has the additional effect of also making it three times more difficult for the target to return fire. This was never really a big deal in any other halo game since you could get lined up, get shot, THEN pull the trigger and still manage a sweet kill over half the map, or at least a hit. It just makes it too one sided.

I actually abuse the hell out of this mechanic, to my advantage.

I can accept the loadout thing, that doesn’t change gameplay very much. I am ok with the armor abilities, got used to those in reach. But being knocked out of zoom is a huge part of what happens in combat. It is a bigger change than adding sprint by a large margin.

Boltshot is actually really bad gameplay, in the same way the DBS was in gears 3.

Yet surprisingly I almost never get killed by it. The only times I ever run into the thing is when I am busy bum rushing a dude after I just ran him out of ammo… Then… WHOOPS DED.

Maybe this is only a problem at the lower rankings… Or higher, since I don’t know where I stand. Either way, I would say 75% of who has ever tried the corner camper-boltshot-bullcrap on me got killed embarrassingly. The noise is a dead giveaway.

Well obviously, if I don’t adapt within days of playing the game is broken.

I’m going back to play SWAT on Reach. That’s the only playlist that requires any amount of skill and the only game with a true balanced DMR without bloom.

Also, carbine is overpowered. It shoots WAY faster than the DMR and is purple. I mean, wtf.

Lolwut. If you want a truly skill-orientated SWAT playlist, you’d play Halo 3 SWAT. Although everyone plays as dinos, bullets actually have travel time and the gameplay is a lot slower and sneakier.

Boltshot: I totally agree. It’s like they gave us a shotgun secondary. I almost had a guy with my AR and he pulls that out and kills me, and to my surprise, he survived.

Mantis: Eh, I sort of agree with you. Maybe a weaker motion sensor?

DMR: YES!!! I 110% agree with you! I see everyone using this thing. I was playing an hour ago and was against a team of 3. All three were using the DMR and ALL three shot at me at the same time. I was dead in seconds. NERF!

Binary Rifle: Well, it is an ordinance weapon. I think it should be powerful. But I guess OHK to the foot is kinda over the top.

For the most part I agree with you. Especially with the DMR. I despise it greatly. I didn’t take kindly to its return anyway. >:(

Sarcasm is hard man.

The only thing I have a gripe with is the change to the mechanics of being hit while zoomed in.

All those bullet points were just making fun of everyone crying about them. All of these things have their weak points which are, frankly, not hard to deal with.

As for the DMR team pwning, you can do the same thing with battle rifles - if the team is coordinated enough.

Answer: Hardlight Shield. That, or don’t go around that corner.

Mantis. I keep getting killed repeatedly as I run up to board it. Every time. Nerf it. I shouldn’t have to use a known tactic to defeat this thing.

Answer: Kill the people near the mantis. Simple.

DMR. Omg it’s a 14 round sniper rifle that still takes 5 shots to kill someone with it. Way too OP. I can’t walk around in the open without getting owned. Nerf it.

Answer: Don’t walk in the open. Try sprinting or flanking enemy.

Binary Rifle. Omgwtfbbq why does this kill you in one shot to the foot??!!1 Nerf it.

Answer: When you see a orange beam on your screen. Find the player and kill him first.

You missed the sarcasm too. Had you actually bothered to read the entire post, you may have caught it.

I do this because it points out the people who can’t be bothered to read and comprehend before commenting.

But as for the mantis comment, nobody said anything about people near the mantis. The reason you cannot just walk up to a mantis is due to it’s stomp move. The correct solution is not “kill the people near the mantis” it is “use a freakin plasma pistol and walk up to it”

10/10 would read again. Well done, OP. I applaud you.

The only problem I have is with the frequency of binary rifle drops and active camo in btb (in small games it’s fine). There’s always 2 death rays scanning the field at all times :\

The mantis actually is horribly weak. If you manage to get one plasma pistol overcharge on it, you can walk halfway across the map repeatedly locking it in place until you are close enough to board the thing.

I had this happen to me twice, hoping and praying he would make enough of a mistake in his timing that I can get a few shots off. Nope. Dude just overcharged and shot, walked closer, overcharged and shot, walked closer… until his plasma pistol was empty and I was dead.

Oh I know it was sarcasm. It’s just sad that people actually complain about these things.

I feel like the personal ordinance drops shouldn’t be completely random.
Maybe like a set for the first ordinance you get, a set for the second, etc.

There is a reason why people have the choice between the Pistol, Bolshot, and Plasma Pistol. Primary function of the Plasma Pistol is to take down shields, and disable vehicles. Makes sense. Doesn’t make the Mantis weak because of someone using a weapon for it’s intended purpose.

Might as well just make it exactly like COD then.

The randomness of it is lame, sure. Nobody likes getting a concussion rifle, a rail gun (with no vehicles to shoot) and a speed boost, when the other team has two damage boost guys with saws running around.

Good rebuttal?

All you said was that randomness sucks.

So you agree then.

Good read.

You also, clearly, missed the point.

I really wish people would keep up with the conversations. I am not complaining about the mantis being OP or weak in any way. It has it’s role, like everything else in Halo. I simply pointed out the correct way to handle the thing.

If you are put up against a team of players who have a clue, the mantis is one of the weakest “power vehicles” in the game. The Scorpion craps on it every time, the wraith can freakin splatter the thing, plus while a tank still has basically all it’s health after a plasma shot, the Mantis is now down its entire primary means of defense.

It’s charged up rate of fire is, I believe, slower than a scorpion/wraith as well. It has its uses, don’t get me wrong. But very rarely is it effective against a coordinated team during an assault. It is more suited for defense.

Yeah, but I would like to see some other system than a rotating set. There really isn’t a proper way to fix it that would make me happy, so I am content with dealing with it.
