It is not confirmed that forge requires internet.

Here is the poorly worder question

“Will ALL Multiplayer a Experiences (in using Forge) require an active connection on Halo 5?”

And now here is josh’s answer

“All multiplayer experiences in Halo 5 run on dedicated servers through Xbox Live, yes.”

There are key words that they use in both the question and answer which are “multiplayer experiences”.

Now that we have seen the keywords let me explain (or try to) how this isn’t confirming that you need internet just to use forge by yourself.

We all know that halo 5 will not support offline local multiplayer , split screen or whatever you want to call it which means that if we want to play with other people we have to be online if we want to have any kind of multiplayer experience.

After reading the above and re reading the question we can see that he specifically asks about playing multiplayer in forge and if it requires an active connection which it does.

Taking a look back at forge it has been a single player mode that allowed multiplayer through local and online. I doubt that they changed forge and made it multiplayer only cause that would be very idiotic on there end.

Let’s look at something else in this game so I can hopefully explain it a little better. Campaign. We know for a fact that you can play campaign offline for a single player experience if you choose to play it that way. It does not require internet to play and it doesn’t use a dedicated server.

There is also the option of playing the campaign cooperatively. Again, since there is no local multiplayer the only way to play the campaign cooperatively is through the internet. The moment that you decide to have other people play through the campaign with you is the moment that the dedicated servers will kick in to give you an overall smoother play through instead of the laggy mess the other games had especially with campaign matchmaking in reach.

The same thing goes for forge, if you want to play it by yourself without be online or if you’re online but want to forge by yourself you can do that . The dedicated servers will not affect you playing by yourself because there will be no need to. But if you decide that you want some buddies to come and build things with you (again, I will say this now , since there is no local offline multiplayer) you will need to be online so you can invite them to your game or however the process will work. That is when the dedicated servers will kick in (again) and give you and your buddies an overall smoother experience instead of the past with player hosting.

I tried my best to explain it I hope it clears up some confusion that other thread may have caused.

This is important. The reason split screen was removed is because the XB1 is a brand new console using already outdated hardware. Hell, they seem to be forced to use cloud computing and dynamic resolution just to make up the shortcomings for multiplayer. However, if you can play campaign offline (though its possible you’ll see performance drops), I don’t see why Forge can’t also be offline. Nor has it been explicitly stated one way or the other. “Multiplayer experiences” does not necessarily mean multiplayer MODES like customs and forge can’t be played solo and campaign has provided a precedent that this is possibly the case for other features in the game as well.

What I need to ask, is why does this matter either way? What’s the point of forging if you don’t have online or splitscreen? You just really enjoy playing with yourself (lol)? I don’t get it.

Some people just like to create things, im not a forge person but I am an artist at heart and also a loner. If I was big into forge I would probably play it by myself just so I could focus on making things the way I want it to be without the distractions of others. Besides things happen, rl issues, can’t afford internet bill, storms , away from home on vacation but want to build something etc.

I just want them to hurry up and release some forge news. If it were to utilize the cloud I could see many good possibilities with it.

agreed they haven’t outright said it requires internet so its safe to assume internet is not required

I would say it’s safer to assume nothing until it’s stated outright, officially.

Nothing is stopping you from being online and still solo. I’m sure the number of people who own an xbox but don’t have internet is a very very small minority.

Hey don’t get me wrong, I will always have some form of internet. Just trying to clear up some confusion for people before they bring out the pitchforks and torches.

Do we know this for a fact? I can’t recall anything official that states this. Point me in the right direction if there is such a statement.

I can’t agree with this more. Just because you interpret the question/answer to be specific to multiplayer only (which I agree with you on), doesn’t mean the opposite is true of single player only. It is very possible that an internet connection will be required at all times for the game. Like I said above, let me know if there is anything official saying otherwise.

I dunno. Seeing as this speculation has resulted in the biggest waypoint -Yoink!- since splitscreen was canned and they still haven’t weighed in on the matter, you could see why one would assume that either 343 is totally out of touch or that they’re still trying to spin it into a good thing (IE: Yes it’s online only BECAUSE OF DA POWAH OF DA CLOUD!).

To give 343 some credit though, I’m sure their reveal schedule is dictated by Microsoft to some extent.

Forge is considered a multiplayer experience just like Custom Games are even if you aren’t playing with someone else. They are able to be played alone but are categorized as multiplayer. Look at MCC for example. Custom Games and Forge are both under the subset ‘Multiplayer’.

No, forge has been classified as a single player experience that allowed multiplayer. Custom games is a multiplayer experience but not forge

Why would they weigh in on a feature they haven’t revealed yet?
