issues with the ranking system

please post any issues you guys have with the halo waypoint ranking system as it is now. this is for 343 to read. i am posting this on their halo waypoint forum in hopes that they will hear my voice. i would really love a response from anyone from 343.

#1, why do i keep getting level 14s on my team? i play by myself because i dont have any good people on my friends list. so i am a 38 and i get a 14 on my team that goes -13 with his guest going -10. in previous halos you could only match up with people with a rank +/-10 of your current rank unless they were a team then that changes things.

#2, why are all the playlists ranked? in previous halos there was a ranked and a social playlist. in ranked playlists guests were not allowed wich was an issue in my point #1.

#3, it is difficult to know a players skill when starting a match. because the rank is only on waypoint it is impossible to know what your teammates skills are. so when i get matched up with a level 14 and i dont know it i cant babysit that person. in previous halos you could just look in the begining and know where they sit skill wise.

#1, why do i keep getting level 14s on my team?

Because there probably aren’t enough 38’s available online at any given moment to fill a team of 4/6/8.

#2, why are all the playlists ranked?

Cause it’s just easier that way.

#3, it is difficult to know a players skill when starting a match.

Yes. It is. CSR is not instant, so even if you could see it, it would not be accurate because it’s a day behind.

A day behind? Can I get a citation on that?

yeah…why did I shoot up to a CSR20 in ONE game of btb. My team lost and I went 18-6 (nothing exceptional). It was my first game since CSR rankings came out and 14 of the 16 players were CSR1 (the other two were CSR2).

#1 is this your first halo game? or was it reach? you dont know previous ranking sytems even when i already explained them

#2, no it isnt easier at all. easier for who exactly?

#3 this falls back to #1. did you play h2 or h3? the rank was clearly visable for anyone to see.

if you have an ignorant oppinion you should keep it to yourself. sorry if i sound harsh but i am very passionate about this game.

well some of that is because btb rank is based on individual score based on who knows. but from what i understand if you get the best score you rank up even if your team loses. wich doesnt make any sence.

to this point i dont understand how i ranked down because i lost because my teammates go -23. !?! i dont get the ranking system and it seems broken.

This is your best bet:

CSR Feedback

An issue I’ve seen is that when I check on Waypoint and look at recent games there are several times the system will give me “9th” place despite my score (in points) being the highest of both teams, second highest, etc. I’ve noticed this occurs with other players as well so when people complain that they got the highest score in points on both teams and still ranked down, it may be due to the system glitching and incorrectly reporting their performance as 9th place.

thanks, the stupid layout of this forum didnt make sence to me. why is wargames its own subject when it is part of h4, kind of confusing.

OP, the team setup system sucks, no objection about it. For that matter, i have the same problems with what i call “low-rankers” siding with me, while the other team has players who are “actual” players, not “rookies”. The worst part about it, although we still end up losing…i always end up as top player on my team, doing all the work, carrying players, etc. Usually, if my team is bad, i just put on my mic and say, “sorry guy, but i do not play with casuals. You’re on your own for this one”, and i end up quitting. It may be the wrong thing, b/c you can get quit banned, but i really wouldn’t care, b/c its the set up of the teams I am very disappointed about. Hopefully 343, IF they have time, to fix that issue.

I’m like level 15 and I’ve only had 2 games that I wasn’t first or second since I started playing again. I play with my friend who is a 30 and we’ve been in competition for first place in every game since launch day. The only difference is that he’s played more often recently so he has a high level, even though we are on even skill level. A lower CSR does not always mean someone is bad player. Maybe you’re a hardcore that just doesn’t get to play often because you have a lot going on in the real world.
So if CSR were visible, would you be one of the people who leaves the pre-game lobby because you see a person with a lower rank than you?
I like the idea of CSR, but too many people turn their nose up at lower ranking people. How will they get better if they have no competition?

I’m not trying to attack or offend you, but you’re making it sound like anyone that doesn’t have a perfect CSR is some kind of disease. I thought this community was above that. I gave up on Halo 3 because I showed up a little late (about a year or 2 after release). Before every game I would get a message from people saying I was garbage because I had a CSR of 2 (after playing about 3-4 games total on my account, and had been playing since day one with every friend I could) and refused to even play in the same lobby as me. I might as well be listening to kids from CoD showing off their billionth prestige or rank up or whatever it’s called.

If anyone is looking for help with CSR, Furiousn00b made a great post here that should help clear some things up

Passion is no excuse for rudeness, and if you are going to call someone ignorant, you need to be smarter than they are. You need to be a better speller, too.

#1 My first Halo game was CE. I own every Halo release and still play them. I also own all but the last two books and have read them all. I understand precisely how the rating system worked in Halo 2 (modified ELO), Halo 3 (modified TrueSkill) and Reach. I do NOT know how CSR works. I’m not sure anyone does. BTW I was your first response and I guess I missed the explanations you gave? Did you delete them?

#2 It’s easier for 343i. It’s supposed to be hard for you because having it show in-game makes your account valuable and would promote account selling. However, since they have stated that all accounts will periodically reset this would be less of a risk. I guess they’re just playing it safe.

#3 The CSR rating system is not the H2 or the H3 system so there is no reason to assume that because those systems were visible this one should be too. They say that there is a technical reason, but I believe it has something to do with the agreement reached with Virgin Gaming. When Halo 4 becomes a part of this, it is your web player card that will be displayed, not your Xbox live Halo 4 player card. That’s why it’s so flashy.

I’m curious as to why your superior intelligence failed to direct you to post your questions in the CSR feedback thread?

visible ranks ARE BAD
