In Halo 5, I find myself banned very frequently, not for any malicious reasons, but because I leave for five minutes to turn off my oven when my dinner is finished cooking, or something similar. I understand that 343 has their reasons for implementing the ban system, but there should be some leniency for innocent situations like the aforementioned ones. If idling is the problem, then I would be content to just leave games when such occasions arise, except I get banned for quitting early too. I seldom have large blocks of time to play for hours and hours on end without interruption but I do enjoy playing the game when I am not banned. Recently, I was banned for an entire 24 hours because of these small interruptions that occur. I would love to play the game more, but overly strict ban system prevents me from doing so. An idea for a solution could work something like this: remove the exponential increase to the ban time, so It doesn’t just keep increasing from 2 minutes all the way up to what I am currently banned for-24 hours and even higher. I cannot change my lifestyle to account for finishing every game and never leaving to go anywhere while a match is playing, so I imagine that soon I will be banned for weeks at a time just because of innocent infractions of idling that are caused by a busy lifestyle.
IRL stuff does happen to us all, I don’t think anyone will disagree with that, but in situations like yours I think you will need to alter how you play a little - instead of starting matches when you know you’re going to have to cut them short (to turn off your oven, etc), don’t play that last match. Back out to the lobby and you won’t be penalized for idling or quitting, there’s not much point in playing if you know you can’t or won’t finish it. Finish 1 game earlier than you normally would

I couldn’t agree more. That said, I frequently encounter an issue where I do try to back out because I know I have to step away for a bit, but get thrown into a match anyway. There are also a number of times where it takes multiple attempts to back out of the lobby before it actually takes me to the arena menu.
Ive been idle banned in a game for just sitting and looking around, not away from the controller or anything, just only using the right stick
