I just recently started playing Reach again (haven’t played since September). Yesterday I was told about the custom challenges, so i set up five challenges just to test it out. I have searched all over a bunch of sites (Here, Bungie.net, and some other gaming sites) and I cant seem to find an answer to the issue I have been having.
My problem is that I made the challenges, started up reach, and I believed that I finished the requirements so i checked waypoint and it said that I had no progress in them. I gave it about ten minutes, it still didnt update. I gave it twenty minutes, and it didn’t update. I went on Reach, and played a few matches and then went back onto waypoint and the challenges still didn’t update.
I wish that 343 would just implement it into Reach’s menu… it would sync up properly and be a lot faster… maybe xD
I’m thinking of clearing my xbox’s cache and trying again.

There are a few causes/answers. I’m going to assume that you’ve already started ignoring the progress bar and percentage and have just been looking at the numbers. The one that it took me a while to find which was what was messing me up at first was constraints. If you set difficulty to Normal, that means that it MUST be done on Normal, not Heroic or Legendary. And Skulls. If you require only Thunderstorm for you challenge, but you always have Grunt Birthday and IWHBYD on for fun, it won’t work. So you need to play with the EXACT skull set up that you put on the challenge, no less and NO MORE, even if it would make your challenge more challenging. Lastly, pay attention to what your kills say after the mission. There are a few instances where you will see one thing (say, an Elite Leader) during the game, but for some reason (usually due to skulls and difficulty, but not always) that kill will count for another (say, an Elite Specialist). So make sure your targets match what the summary screen would tell you. I’d recommend making a simple Kills only challenge for a specific map, difficulty, and with one skull. Play it, and if you still don’t get progress in the numbers, write an official complaint.
You have to click on the customs, not just click down the name bar at the top, it almost always says 0% there.
Also, in case you haven’t figured this out, let’s say you want to focus on Campaign. You obviously can’t make 5 of the same challenge and then just do it once. But some of the types of challenges are mutually exclusive. Headshots, for example, are a medal AND a kill. So if you make a headshot challenge for Campaign, it won’t let you make any more Campaign challenges until you turn that one in. You also can’t just create the headshot challenges last. Kills only is almost as bad, you’ll only be able to make a medals challenge on top of it. But, you can make a medals challenge and as many kills with specific weapon and kills of specific enemy challenges (totalling 5, of course) as you want. So, yes, you can stack 3 or possibly more (depending on the circumstance) challenges into a single action. If you have a map where you use almost exclusively one weapon (say, melee), and it is heavy with one type of enemy. Well, assassinations, beat downs, and pummels all count as melee weapon kills, they all get medals, and if the are a load of grunt heroes or something, you would get a tick on all three challenges for each time you kill one. That might not be what Bungie and 343 intended, but you can do it.

I am fairly certain that i have been using the exact skulls and difficulties (i hate to admit it but I was trying the boosting challenges since they would finish faster xD) and i know mythic apparently makes the elite specialists super tough.
I will try setting up a “get 5 kills” challenge with no skulls needed hopefully that works. I’m not sure what else to do other than clear my cache and try again. any other advice on fixing it would be good to hear.
Haha, I won’t deny that I’ve been using some “Gimmie gimmie gimmie” challenges. I just made a personal rule to not use ones that I find online, and only use ones that I figure out myself. That way it’s only half cheating, right?..Right???

Anyways, I tried the “get 5 kills in three hours” challenge and it still won’t work. After trying to get 5 kills in campaign and it didn’t work, I went and played a match in multiplayer, got 9 kills, those didn’t count, so I tried the campaign again and the didn’t work again xD
I guess I should try clearing my cache and updating the game again. If that doesn’t work, I guess I’m out of luck. Thanks for the help guys.
