This has been a long time coming. I wouldnāt say itās overrated at all, I would say itās overdue, and I canāt wait to see what surprises they throw towards us.

The Halo Infinite engine demo was not to make us think it looked better or worse than Halo 5 imo. I believe it was to show us what it could do. How the water looked, the dust cloud and movement in and around the tent as the warthog drove by, the scale of what could be achieved, the shading, fire effects and so on.
There is also the hints, fight for her written in the tent like the posters in ODST, the older armour, possible underwater exploration, the morse code, the rune like lettering on the cave wall etc.
Your friend saw nothing if he merely compared it to the look of Halo 5. Thatās just my opinion.
No this new engine is super good. It does have a Halo CE vibe but that isnāt bad at all. Itās more Nostalgic than anything. Anyone who thinks it looked worse than any Halo before obviously needs glasses. Lol

The engine looked more advanced than anything we have had before in halo, so yes its a big deal.
A new engine, properly new engine;
-License money: They donāt have to pay license money to anyone, maybe they didnāt have to before, but now they certainly do not have to pay any license money anywhere.
Furthermore, with their own engine they can sell licenses to others for use.
Few probably remember, but there was a Zombie game made for the Xbox Original using the Halo CE engine.
i343 could potentially go do whatās done with Unity, UE4, Source Engine and so forth, with their Slipspace engine. Allow others to use it as long as they pay i343 if the game made, or app, generates money.
They can also easier optimise the engine for what they want to do with the game if they have an in-house engine, atleast somewhat easier than to strip up any of the other enginesā source code and start ripping that apart.
Tell your friend that gameplay >>>>>> graphics.
There are tons of games that prove this, just look at minecraft.
The engine demo was just a quick demo and probably not even finished.

Right now, the engine is showcasing its capabilities to us graphically. Iāll wait for gameplay footage & other demos of the game to write my full verdict.

We have not seen gameplay yet,the graphics looks nice to me.
