Based on much of the feedback that I have seen on this site, Halo Infinite has not been well received by many, including myself. 6+ years in development and releases with maybe the least amount of content that a Halo has ever been released with, and micro transactions that are not so micro. But how did this happen?
I would like to take you back to October of 2015 when a game called Halo 5 was released. This highly anticipated game releases to the public to a similar reception as Halo Infinite. People were underwhelmed with the the lack of content available and its monetization model. So players took to social media and began tearing Halo 5 apart, and I genuinely believe that 343 listened. They listened SO well, that they totally scrapped what they already has started for the next Halo. I think they scrapped most of the story, the existing engine, MP model, monetization model… everything!
So now they have a clean slate to give the player base what they want, but at what cost? The cost is now they have spent so much time and money on this game and new engine, that they don’t have time to put out a proper release of their new game in any kind of timely manner. I’m sure this also brought pressure from above to try to recoop some of that added expense too. So ultimately 343 releases a game that is not well received by the player base because of its lack of content and poor monetization model.
I do not work for Microsoft or 343 so I don’t actually know if this is how it all played out, but if you have been following the Halo news for the past 6 years, it’s seems likely this is the scenario they found themselves in.
I find it funny how bad practices, followed by much complaining is followed by more bad practices and more outcry. Seems like if things were done right the first time, this cycle could end and we could move forward with an awesome game…but who knows?
I stopped after the first sentence. This site is not a good barometer for how Infinite is being received. This site is full of players who hate change and can’t understand the way things work these days. It ain’t 2001 anymore. Never mind that it hasn’t even been fully released yet.
Yeah I’m with you, lots of polls I have seen have criticisms but there has been overwhelming praise for the gameplay which is the most important part.
343 are already addressing issues.
The microtransactions aren’t even an issue if people are paying for them. They may be an issue to you personally, but to the community it’s not an issue.
This is literally just a recap of Halo Infinites development, it seems to be mostly correct from the information I have. Honestly this entire post is just stating the obvious. It just seems like an incredibly passive “Yoink you 343”. While it may be deserved and this game is admittedly lightweight, and despite the remarkable backlash received from doing it, perhaps launching this game early was better than us getting it on Dec 8th and it being horrible.
I’m not against anyone for liking the game. More power to you. But the headlines I’m seeing in pretty much every outlet are not how great the game play is. They are calling out the mounting issues that are having to be dealt with.
To be fair, no game is perfect and all have to adjust to feedback.
Yeah I’m hoping the lack of playlists was a test run to see how crossplay was working and received. They will no doubt have a better understanding of what to do going forwards. Most importantly they wanted a smooth launch with high quality games and overall I think that’s been achieved.
Now they can start adding in more playlists, I’m sure SWAT, Slayer and Infection are top of many people’s lists. Hopefully we get more event playlists as Fiesta came and went in a flash.
It’s a live service game so be sure there is much more to come provided they can maintain a healthy population.
Can’t agree with your assessment. 6 years (and MANY more millions in funding) is a great deal more than Bungie spent on their Halo games, and they were rich with content.
Halo 1, 2, 3, ODST, and Reach were all released within a 10-year span. Some of those were released within 2 years of the others.
Infinite’s 1-year delay, lack of content, and cost of production just point to serious leadership failures in its development. (I’ve been an executive and CEO in multiple $MM businesses).
It’s also worth noting that Halo 2’s development was also infamously troubled and rushed, and they still managed to get a game out the door with vastly more content and more functional systems than 343 have managed with Infinite.
You guys do realize that 343 is just not a good launch company. But they’re great for the long run. And thats the entire point of Infinite. A ten year, constantly updating platform.
