Is whoever's in the Cryptum being controlled?

My friend came up to me and asked what if whoever’s in the Cryptum being controlled by the Precursors? I just told him that it couldn’t work. What do you think, could this be a possibility?

while Cryptum makes the most sense, I don’t remember reading that it can fly/have the person inside awake/be able to talk to you.

I doubt someone is controlling the Cryptum outside of it, though Precursors are probably able to do such a thing.
