Is VSYNC forced on, even when turned off?

Fringe case here, but I have a 75hz freesync display, and noticed that Halo 5: Forge seemed like it was dropping (or skipping) frames every second. Usually any game I’ve played locked to 60fps (Dark Souls 3 for example) are still really smooth because of the whole freesync thing, but even that turned off and vsync disabled they’ll still appear to run far smoother than Halo 5: Forge (albeit with screen tearing).

I forced 60hz on my desktop resolution and tried again which was definitely smoother, the obvious frame hitches went away. So, it seemed that no matter if vsync was on or off in the app’s video options, it was still trying to vsync Halo Forge’s locked 60fps to a 75hz display, causing some weird frame skips with consistent and high frequency, making it appear like it was stuttering, while also feeling a bit laggier.

Seems like either freesync just doesn’t work, or vsync is always on, or some mixing of both? I really don’t know. I did notice that with freesync disabled and vsync forced off (in both game and drivers), there was still no visible screen tearing, so it appears safe to assume it is forcing vsync on no matter what?

Anyway, weird issue so I’m not too concerned, more hope that you folks can increase the fov, add an adjustable arbitrary framerate cap above 60, and also add some ultrawide support eventually. Seems really well made otherwise. Even PC focused games still lack basic stuff like Raw Mouse Input options and solid keybinding capability, so it’s nice to see a weird port thing like this do good by the PC standard control schemes and devices.

Thanks!
