Is unlocking armor/skins/etc really this hard?

You just do it through REQ packs? It seems like it will be quite a grind to unlock a large portion of the stuff…or am I missing something?

No your not. This is how it is. Welcome to the grind!!

Yes, it is. If you do nothing but play Warzone Assault, the most efficient mode for earning points, you can expect to see about 12k Req points per hour (that’s being generous). Which is basically four uncommon-rare items, or two rare and above items if you’ve already cleared all the lower rarity items.

It takes several hundred hours of gameplay to unlock everything, and several hundred before you even get to see the really rare stuff.

Not really hard, but time consuming. The only armor not tied to REQ packs is Achilles and you need to be in a spartan company to get it.

It’s not hard if you play Halo for Halo, not for REQ packs. Just don’t think about it and by the time you know it, you’ll have a ton of REQ Points.

It’s not hard, but yes, you have to play a long time before getting everything in the game.

No not really lol. I started with bronze and didn’t care about getting nothing. But within a couple of days I finished up bronze. One game of warzone assault will give you a bronze pack so they just kept coming, and I kept selling mongooses and gungooses too and sometimes I was able to buy 2 bronze packs. Warzone will most likely give you enough for 2. Its time consuming but easy to accumulate points. I’ve been done since december, and I started playing at launch.

I’m afraid so. But, I’ll leave you with a pro tip.
If you haven’t already figured it out, Gold packs are pretty worthless if they don’t drop Ultra Rares and Legendaries. Similarly, Silver packs are worthless if they don’t drop many Rares. The key is to buy nothing but Bronze until you have all Common items, then buy all Silvers until you have all UC/R items, etc. It may seem terrible, but after about 20 or so levels, it’ll be nice to get real loot for once. This way, you don’t waste all those precious REQ points at the lower levels.
I’m level 60 now, and I have quite a bit of good stuff. Unfortunately, grinding is the only way to unlock the goodies. But, also note that changes to REQs and Boosts (use 'em all) in the most recent update will help the grind tremendously.
I thought I would never get the Security helmet (Marathon 4 ever), but, here I am, wearing it proudly. It all takes time… patience… and time…
Best of luck in those REQs, man!

There’s no point in buying bronze packs. They only have a chance at giving a permanent unlock, and over time that chance is basically the same as buying silver packs for the guaranteed two unlocks.

It is true though that you have to clear silver packs before clearing gold packs.

The most important thing to note is that you should only buy bronze packs until the first card is a REQ point refund, then only buy silver until you start getting 3000 REQ points back with each silver purchase, then go for the gold. This way you aren’t spending 10k for a gold pack and getting permanent unlocks you could have gotten for 1250.

T4nk

I have about 221 hours play/time (mostly arena) and have roughly half of the permanents unlocked. Yep.

I thought this as well and avoided Bronze packs right until I had about 5 commons left, at which point I thought eh screw it, let’s buy bronze and try to clear them (I just wanted to have them complete ASAP and it was cheaper than throwing silvers at it) and afterwards I genuinely wished I had just bought bronze all the way. It isn’t a 100% chance, but it does work out about 70% and it does work out cheaper than silvers to clear all commons (it’s about 50% more efficient than silvers). So I’m with some of the others on this post; Bronze until you get the 500RP cards, then Silver until the 1500RP cards, then Gold. Also, completely avoid things like the 120K reach pack in my opinion (<-- that is the only opinion bit, the rest is statistically true, whether you choose to follow it or otherwise)

Been playing since day one and have yet to get any permanent legendary unlocks yet. I also barely have any ultra rare permanents. Do I just have horrible luck or is something actually wrong with the system? It’s remarkably discouraging and frustrating when you grind for hours every day only to get nothing.

Do silvers first.

Just play the game. Start with bronze when you start getting points back, go to silver till you get points back, and then gold. Working on your commendations help as does ranking up.

Just please don’t spend actual money on this stuff. It makes me sad, when people do that. And there is nothing worse than a sad comedic hermit with a gravity hammer.
