Think about it. In Halo: Escalation, Palmer was an ODST before she was recruited to be a Spartan. Is it crazy to think that the same happened to Thorne? That he was an ODST before being a Spartan? And that he was specifically the Rookie from Halo 3: ODST?
Nope, Thorne was in the UNSC Army before he was recrutied in the Spartan IV program. ODST’s are part of the Marines.
No Thorne is not the Rookie. Thorne’s home world is Earth. The Rookie’s is the moon (Luna). There is also no info (that I could find) on Thorne being an ODST. (Thorne could not be an ODST because he was in the army), he is not the Rookie from Halo 3 ODST.

Thank you. I am stupid to forget that Thorne started in the army. ditzy doo
No but Bucks squad needs to come back at some point. A big “one final effort” type of reunion of every major character (that isn’t dead) for the end of the saga would be ideal.
The Rookie was supposed to be you he isn’t another character he is like Noble Six and fireteam Crimson. Rookie doesn’t have his own identity.
Oh thank god. I read the headline and almost got sick at the thought someone as lame as Thorne turning out to be the Rookie.

Thorne isnt lame. Even Halsey considered him more of a spartan than any ither spartan 4 she met

Out of the total of four Spartan IVs she’d actually met…
I don’t see why’s there’s so much hype around the Rookie. He didn’t really do anything…

As in, no personality whatsoever.

…Like the Rookie?

Exactly. These characters are just…too vanilla.
Thorne has a brain, that alone makes his more valuable than most of the post-Halo 3 cast.
No more likely one of crimson squad is the rookie ( they don’t talk that much)

I fail to understand how Rookie is more interesting than Thorne.
I think people like the Rookie more because you fill in the identity of the Rookie. If you think about it that’s how it was for Master Chief before the books and Halo 4. Starting at Halo CE all that was known about Master Chief was that he was a super soldier and that now as him you had to save the human race. Other than that you filled in what was missing. You were his personality, his flaws, etc. The books and Halo 4 started giving Master Chief an identity and a personality. There was a lot of people who got mad at the exploration of Master Chief’s emotions because for the longest time you were Master Chief and by revealing Master Chief’s inner self it took you back from being him. For other people it’s the mystery of the Rookie. Nobody knows who he is, but he seems to be the silent and deadly type sort of like Noble Six. The blank spaces of the Rookie gives the impression that he’s had a past that ONI won’t give any information about and if ONI leaves information secret it’s probably for a good reason. I barely know anything about Spartan Thorne, but I wouldn’t be so quick to judge him. He’s only been in 1 Halo game. If you remember Sgt. Johnson wasn’t really recognized or popular until Halo 2. Maybe in time we’ll learn something interesting about Thorne.

I hate that it reeks of laziness bungie was horrible when it came to character development. Johnson was the stereotypical African american comic relief guy. John was the Cookie cutter FPS protagonist. Don’t even get me started on Noble Team. 343 is leaps an bounds better then bungie in terms of story lore and character development.

By the tone of your statement, I must ask about your opinion about Tom Lasky, who is one of my favourite post-Halo 3 characters.
There isn’t really any solid proof, only your own guess…
Rookie could be Edward Davis’s sibling. I mean, his initials are JD, so…and the Rookie was a marine while Davis was most likely a marine as well. And I think that Rookie could be a spartan IV now, so he’d be following in his brothers footsteps. Idk, this is just a loose theory.
