I recently heard Josh Holmes, the creative director of 343i was fired. Firstly, I’d like some confirmation if this is true or if this is a mere rumor. Secondly, why was he fired? Many suspect this is because of what happened at the GDC panel, I fail to understand what part of his job he has done incorrectly. If someone can give some insight into this I would appreciate it, I personally thought he did a good job and really hope the rage created by this ungrateful community didn’t cause this.
No one knows if he was fired, but there is a job opening for “Creative Director,” a role Holmes held for Halo 4. This doesn’t mean he was fired; Holmes is Halo 4’s creative director, but this new guy is coming in for Halo 5. Holmes will likely fill a more advisory role, or appear in the new guy’s team, rather than being the leader himself.
This is good in my opinion. They need a new take for Halo 5, since Halo 4 didn’t go so well with fans. They’ll need someone more willing to cater to the old fashioned then Holmes was, but that doesn’t mean they straight up fired him.
Well just imagine a VISA employee went to a presentation for a new credit card which was supposed be easier for everyone to obtain and the picture used was of a blind man finding the slot for the credit card in the machine on the first try and then giving a thumbs up.
I’d fire them.
There’s that word agian… “ungratefull”. It’s nothing to do with gratitude as the term does not apply. We PAID for a PRODUCT as CONSUMERS. What we are, is unsatisfied.
Just to be clear.
But yeah, it sucks for Josh Holmes but I guess someone had to take the fall. That’s what happens when you break 343s policy of absolutely ignoring the community.

please dont use the word “we” when you dont speak for everyone.
Josh Holmes is still with 343i just fine, but it is correct, 343i is looking for a new Creative Director. As seen here.

Well, I see your point but sometimes it’s like the fanbase of Halo really is a bunch of 12 year old kids. It’s just whining, I’m sure 343i get’s it after the first couple of complaints. I wouldn’t exactly say Josh Holmes ignored the community either. Contrary to popular belief the forums make a small percentage of Halo players.

So he can’t say “WE PAID for” because some people may have stolen it? Petty… really petty.

Nor do I try to. I was answering the OP. When he used the words “ungrateful community” he was attacking a specific group. It was that group I was refering to when i said “we”, not the community as a whole.
Happy now?

Being unsatisfied and being ungrateful are two different things. This community is, by and large, ungrateful. It’s fine to voice your opinion, but the shear pessimism, despair, oh woe-is-me Halo is dead, they ruined it FOREVER mentality that pervades much of this community isn’t the maturity of a civil, merely “unsatisfied” consumer-base. A community who was unsatisfied would take their complaints to 343i in a mature, orderly, civilized manner. They would not boycott a game (itself a completely useless endeavor) and ask for 343i to be fired immediately. This community screams at the top of its lungs and makes itself not look worth the time it takes to listen. They completely ignore the fact that 343i has put their careers on the line for this franchise and are more than willing to listen to its fan base, but the community is screaming to loud to hear them, over themselves as well as 343i.
If they can’t see the risk that these 200+ people took in taking care of this franchise, and instead default to pure unfettered, unconstructive rage, then no, they are not unsatisfied, they are ungrateful, and its pathetic what this community has become.

You make it seem like that there hasn’t been polite and constructive forum posts before. For the first several months there was a large amount of constructive and mature threads that got completely ignored. But as time kept rolling people became impatient with the lack of communication. The problem is that even threads that are well mannered and actually constructive got ignored. So it seems like the only way to actually get a response from 343 is to be a little more rude and vulgar.

I’m not trying to imply that the rage oriented theads you’re talikng about don’t exist. We both know they do, they annoy me to. For every rage post there are as many constructive posts telling the same story in a civilised, coherent fasion. I fail to see how you can label this community ungrateful based on the fact we are expressing discontent for something we paid for.
This game was not a gift. If you gave ma a bar of chocolate I would feel in no way obligated to send a letter of thanks to Cadburys. Particularly if the chocolate was sub standard.
Where did you here that he was fired?
> Although this probably isn’t how it went down, I like to think that the team took Mr. Holmes out for Chicken Nuggets, made sure he had an amazing night, then, while sitting down in a McDonald’s booth, they told him that he was fired.

> I like to think that the other patrons at McDonald’s were able to bear witness to the tears of a man in a Halo 4 t-shirt with a half-eaten plate of Chicken McNuggets in front of him.
The opening for a new Creative Director has been open since before the GDC panel. Unless Frankie has perfected his time-travel function on his space mop, I’m going to say that these are two unrelated events.
I really hope that he wasn’t fired, he doesn’t deserve that in the least bit. Sure, the GDC presentation wasn’t the best, and Halo 4 wasn’t necessarily what some fans wanted from it (even though it has just as much greatness in it, if not more, than it has flaws), but everybody makes mistakes, right?
After all, Halo 4 is his first Halo game, and it definitely takes a while to get the Halo formula right. They’ve been doing a lot of good stuff for the game lately, like Forge Island and the weapon tuning abilities added in the Title Update.
Is he the guy who has been in charge of playlists since launch? Because I’ve always thought that whoever that guy is should be fired.
Wait, what happened at the GDC panel? Something specific?
Let’s not spread misinformation or try to stir things up please. That’s neither helpful nor constructive in any way.
