Some random parent said that halo 4 isn’t violent and it shouldn’t be rated m but rated t. What do you guys think is she right or is she an idiot. I think she is an idiot
I think it should stay rated M, And I don’t think that pre-teens should be playing Halo at all. M is good because young teenagers need parental permission to buy.
I’m not like the media that thinks violent video games turn people into mass murderers, but I also believe that younger children shouldn’t be playing games like Halo or CoD.
Both right and wrong.
According to ESRB you have to have an “intense” or “strong” of something in order for it to be rated Mature. Halo 1 originally got rated M because of “Blood and gore” which warrents the M rating as well. Halo Reach and Halo 4 were rated M though by ESRB’s standards the game should be rated T.
Other T games, such as SC2, have blood and gore, and are not rated M. ESRB seems to have thrown their own rules out the window.
However, while not as violent and much much more tame than other M games, Halo probably does (IMO) deserve the rating of M. Its not meant for kids, that much is clear. For example, someones face getting composed in one of the cutscenes of H4. The flood. Cortana herself, while one of my favorite characters, can be looked down on as parents as strong sexual content. Halo’s stories are also very dark, there are no kiddish lines like Star Wars and everything is 100% serious.
It really depends on opinion though, and in mine, there needs to be a rating inbetween T and M. Too big of an age gap. Halo is not even comparable to other M games in terms of content such as grand theft auto or mortal kombat.
I would be perfectly happy to let the children I don’t actually have play this game.
This game should be Rated Teen.
-There is very little gore, if anything, just a little blood.
-In multiplayer, it isnt even person vs person violence, you are in spartan suits.
-I dont think I heard a single curse word in the campaign.
-I would hardly call this game intense violence.
-The weapons in this game are fictional.
-When you melee is it just lunging; not like call of duty, how it is knifing.
-You can find 1000 times this amount of violence in 30 seconds of TV.
-The parent is going to buy them the game whether it is T or M, so who cares.
I dont think kids should be allowed to play shooter games, purely because I dont want them on my team; and its a fact that their parent had to buy it.
But other than that, I dont think it does any psychological damage (to most kids), and I think it is harmless to players of any age.
It should be kept as M. Although Halo is very cartoonish compared to other rated-M games such as Mortal Kombat, it far reaches beyond the limits of Teen. Halo is in between Teen and Mature, but sides more to Mature and thus, should be rated M.
As a parent of a 9 year old, I have to disagree with her. The ratings are for everyone overall, not just her kids. Yeah, her kids might be able to tell the difference between animated violence and see it as just that, but you’re putting the game out there for the masses to buy and play(or buy for their kids to play), so you have to have some sort of structure that levels the playing field for those out there that don’t understand that you’re not really plunging a knife into someone’s skull and not really getting a medal for it, and there isn’t a guy over your shoulder every time you do something awesome and yells out, “MAIL TAKEN”, “LAAAAWM MOWED”, etc.
The sad facts of the world is that everyone is different, everyone has a different learning level and everyone, sadly has a different understanding of what is right and wrong in this world. Someone’s 6 year old might be okay with seeing or playing a game like Halo(I’ll be the first to admit letting my son run around with me in Valhalla in H3 in custom games)… but some kids, even in their teens, just aren’t wired the same, and either act out aggression the way they were taught or the way they viewed it when growing up, and sadly, mature games like Halo can help feed that aggression in them, but it’s not the reasoning or why they do it, that’s already wired into them… it’s just adding to it, and for those kids, I believe should most definitely stay away from “violent” games like Halo, CoD, Assassin’s creed, etc.
TL;DR I’m a parent & I disagree with her, kids are wired differently and some just aren’t ready for “mature” themes.
