Is this how aiming works?

It seems like aiming is very different in Halo 5 but I am starting to understand what they want us to do. When you watch pros play Halo 3 they sort of hold position and lock into a tight strafe pattern and keep their reticle in a similar position. It feels like 343 has created a system designed to enforce and encourage this kind of aiming style.

Tell me if I’ve got this right:

When you get into a hip-fire engagement, you are expected to mainly stay on target using the left stick to strafe and aim (a small amount of aim assist from the engine will help you compensate for the enemy’s movement). This works better at certain ranges, depending on your equipped weapon - it seems to be optimised for each weapon (i.e. it’s harder to do this at close range with a pistol than with an assault rifle). As a general rule, you need to use the right stick only for larger movements.

When aiming down sights, the right stick is used more to turn your character if the enemy moves outside your reticle (this is the part that’s hardest to explain/understand).

It’s completely different to other shooters.

Is that right? More or less?

I have found that this game is more in favor of the longer strafe than the short like halo 2 and 3. Also with the known aim acceleration issues and good timed jump and or thruster isn’t a bad idea in the game. Any other halo I wouldn’t jump in because you become a sitting target.

one has to use his right stick very carefully in order to not hit anything except the target

Max sensitivity is too slow.

It’s horrible.

When aiming down the sights it’s nigh impossible to hit what your aiming for despite the sensitivity. Inb4 get good no other shooter this gen has this problem.
